You can exchange money at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, where there are licensed foreign exchange bureaux. However, the exchange rates at the airport are often less favourable than those offered in the city.
If you're happy to wait until you get to Mangochi, Ray can help you exchange your money at a reliable exchange bureau after your arrival. The nearest bank and ATM from the volunteer house is around a 15-20 minute drive, where you may withdraw the local currency using your debit or credit card.
We recommend budgeting approximately US$100 per week for personal expenses, such as snacks, soft drinks, meals not included in the program (up to two per day), and local transportation.
As a guide, a lunch and drink in the business district typically costs around US$15.
If you plan to travel or join tours on the weekends, we recommend budgeting approximately US$150 per day. Actual costs will vary depending on your travel plans, activities, and destination.

All programs attract a Registration Fee of US$329 (approximately AU$482) in addition to the Program Fee. This covers all pre-departure support services. IVHQ fees are priced in USD but you may elect to pay in AUD.
