What to expect as an Arts & Music volunteer abroad

IVHQ offers unique volunteer opportunities abroad for those interested in teaching music, sharing creative passions and inspiring others to develop their artistic abilities. Each of our programs are unique to the region and are structured around the local culture.

  • Carnival in Brazil: This unique project is centreed around Rio Carnival - one of the biggest festivals in the world, drawing in over two million people. As a Carnival volunteer, you’ll be placed in a local school helping to prepare for the festivities. This includes assisting with costumes and floats, choreographing dances and more. As this project is event specific, the dates change every year and are available between October and February.

  • Arts & Music in Jordan: Volunteers on this project help child refugees by using creative outlets to raise awareness of different social issues. You’ll lead creative workshops, touching on themes such as diversity, gender equality and climate change.

  • Music in Ecuador: If you’re looking to teach music abroad, this is the project for you. Volunteers can use their musical skills as a force for good, helping local students express themselves by exploring new sounds and instruments.

Why join an Arts & Music project abroad?

Why join an Arts & Music project abroad?

As part of a well-rounded education, it’s critical that children have access to creative resources and outlets. In many low income communities, however, art and music is not a focus or a priority within education systems.

As a music or art volunteer abroad, you’ll support local teachers by putting structure around artistic programs. By bringing your own creative flair and talent, you’ll help teach youth and teens the importance of art, music and creativity, whether it be playing the guitar, dancing or general arts and crafts.

Your volunteering efforts will help support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals #3: Good Health & Wellbeing and #4: Quality Education.

IVHQ’s programs are available year-round and are ideal for creative volunteers who enjoy contributing to a range of tasks and want to help others discover their artistic passions.

”I was very pleased with the quick and thorough answers from IVHQ while i was deciding on the trip and during preparations. Volunteering on the Carnaval program was the best thing I have ever done, I was thrilled to be able to help with the costumes and gain some friends from the favellas in Rio. You get a true understanding of how life is and their culture. I would definitely do it again.”
