I have learned that even at the senior age of sixty one, I am able to adapt to hostel living. I have learned that, and was immensely proud that I embraced the teaching program fully, and not only enjoyed it, but learnt daily, different techniques of teaching through fellow volunteers and the general mechanics of teaching, preparation and presentation, with the valuable help of the coordinator Peachii, to whom I’m forever grateful. I have also learnt that in French universities, often volunteering is part of the curriculum, hence at times, with the enormous French contingent I felt I was living in France. Overall I found the experience wonderful and enlightening and the children engaging and adorable and I hope I have made a difference, helping them with their English.

This experience was one of the highlights of my travels, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to make a meaningful contribution while experiencing Thai culture.
The people were incredible met some of my best friends during my time and I will absolutely be keeping in contact with them from the other side of the world. I continued my travels after Thailand and I reconnected with two of my closest friends from Europe.
I highly recommend adding Culture Week to your experience, especially if it is your first time visiting Thailand. I learned so much about Thai culture, temples, food, language, and history. I particularly enjoyed the Muay Thai session and, of course, making and eating Pad Thai, spring rolls, and Thai tea. It was also a great opportunity to meet your fellow volunteers- especially those enrolled with other programs like childcare or construction.
I gained so many amazing friends in the other volunteers aswell as in the coordinators. I learned how easy it is to make connections with people from different cultures and all over the world. The program itself brought me so much joy and it was amazing working with the kids everyday. My advice is, just go for it. Don‘t worry to much about things you can‘t influence, the local team is amazing and will support you at all times. Doing the volunteer programm was the best decision I ever made and I‘m so happy I had the courage to go.
This experience positively exceeded my expectations in all respects, and in fact I find myself greatly wishing I was still out there with elephants in Thailand or doing other types of service work in a part of the world that is currently unfamiliar to me, with volunteers from around the globe. I am completely supportive of the work of B Corps and wish I had a role in advancing that work.
For others contemplating volunteering with IVHQ, be brave, take the step. To parents and loved ones of potential IVHQ volunteers, please know IVHQ is an exceptional organization with a laudible mission, with perfection in the details.
Of course, I came away from this experience with important lessons learned. I believe those lessons might be of value to others too, but I can't find an area in this questionnaire to express them.
