The program exceeded my expectations. I felt relieved knowing that the work I put in was a continuation of work performed by previous volunteers and would be continued by future volunteers. It was important for me to be a part of projects that are sustainable and beneficial to the community as a whole.

Hill Tribe Support in

Hill Tribes around Hua Hin maintain a traditional way of life, but have an increasing need for access to modern education. As a volunteer, you’re able to help support locals to live the lifestyle they desire, while also providing much needed help in English and other lessons. In return, you’ll get an authentic volunteer experience as you’re immersed in a Karen Hill Tribe, living like a local and learning all about their unique culture.

Based in Kaeng Krachan, just over an hour’s drive from Hua Hin, volunteers mostly help with lessons in local schools, working with students aged between 3-15 years old. The majority of your lessons will be teaching English, but you can also help with other subjects, as well as providing after school activities and games for students.

Volunteers can also help in other areas that need assistance, often in supporting local enterprise efforts designed to earn income for the community. The exact nature of this volunteer work depends on the requirements at the time.

This project is well suited to volunteers who want to experience a new culture from the inside, while also contributing something to the community. Kaeng Krachan is a stunning National Park with amazing views, walks and lifestyle that can’t be replicated anywhere else. You should expect basic but comfortable living conditions, with no WiFi. Internet is available if you purchase a local SIM card.

The project will close in school holidays from mid-May to mid-March and in October. Volunteers during these times can help to run classes and English camps in Hua Hin.

As volunteers work with the support of IVHQ’s local team and placement staff, you don’t need to be a qualified teacher. However, we encourage volunteers to come prepared by completing some relevant training, like a teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) course. Visit our Online TEFL Course page to learn how to gain an internationally-recognized TEFL certification at a discounted rate.

Outdoor Volunteer Work in

For those who like being active outside and working with your hands, this project is right up your alley. There’s a wide variety of ongoing community projects that volunteers can contribute to, all that provide great value for locals.

You’ll help with building and construction-related projects around Chiang Rai. The exact nature of your work will depend on what’s been prioritized in Thailand at the time of your trip, but generally involves either creating and maintaining terraced rice fields for people in poor villages, assisting on maintenance projects in the community or helping with relief efforts in the wake of storms and other emergencies.

Outdoor Volunteer Work volunteer in Thailand with IVHQ

Previous volunteers have been able to make tangible contributions as laborers, painters and general assistants on a range of projects, including water tanks, drainage systems, classroom renovations, agricultural work, roading projects and private homes.

You’ll also get the chance to contribute in hill tribe communities every other week. This involves helping on more traditional construction projects, but still volunteering in a hands-on way.

Some work is regularly scheduled and other jobs will be assigned to volunteers as they arise. It is important to note that there are three distinct seasons in Thailand (hot, rainy, cold) and sometimes outdoor work is not possible. In these times, you’ll help with related work that can be carried out under cover, such as planning and researching future projects.

Teaching English in

In northern areas of Thailand, local people have very limited access to formal education. There is a real need for volunteers to assist in teaching not only young children, but also adults from surrounding hill tribes and local villages. The focus is on providing assistance to teaching English initiatives in the local villages and hill tribes.

As a volunteer English teacher, you’ll assist local teachers and other volunteers in lessons for students of all ages. You can also expect to teach some classes on your own. Time is set aside each day for you to prepare your lessons.

Teaching English in

English is highly valued in Thailand due to its potential to change lives and provide increased employment opportunities. Hua Hin is an up-and-coming tourist destination and being able to speak English is an important skill for those wanting jobs in the tourism industry.

You’ll volunteer in local schools, community centers and kindergartens , helping to teach English to students aged between 3-18 years old. Many students have little exposure to fluent English speakers, and your authority as an expert in the language makes a big difference in their ability to learn. You can help a local teacher in lessons or lead classes on your own.
