My three weeks volunteering in Cusco with International Volunteer HQ gave me far more than I ever expected. I gained a deeper sense of connection—to the community, to the culture, and to myself. Being welcomed into local projects, working alongside the on‑the‑ground team, and forming genuine relationships with people from all over the world reminded me how powerful it is when humans show up for one another.
If someone is hesitant about joining the program, I’d say this: you don’t need to feel “ready” or have everything perfectly planned. What matters is your willingness to learn, to contribute, and to be open to experiences that will stretch and inspire you. The support from the local team is incredible, the work is meaningful, and the personal growth is real. It’s one of those rare opportunities where you give a little and receive so much in return.
