If you’re a dentistry student looking for an international volunteer opportunity that enables you to gain first-hand insight into the operations of a dental clinic in India, this project is well suited to students in the early stages of their studies.
As a dental volunteer in Kerala, you will be shadowing a local dentist within a well-established clinic that provides dental services to foreign patients who travel to India seeking affordable dental care. By shadowing and observing the head dentist, volunteers are able to see a range of treatments and procedures in action. You will also gain a deep insight into running a dental practice and receive dedicated mentorship from the head dentist who is very enthusiastic about hosting international volunteers.
Please note that due to governmental regulations, volunteers are unable to participate in hands-on work, therefore more senior dental students or qualified dentists should keep this mind to ensure they have realistic expectations of the project work. It may be best to use your observations to support further research or as part of a research project.
The Dentistry volunteer project has a minimum duration of 2 weeks and a surcharge of US$50 (approximately AU$66) per week to cover the extra supervision and materials that are required. This amount will be included in the Program Fee quoted to you by IVHQ when you apply.
