For children from working families, school holidays are often a time of uncertainty, where they’re left to their own devices as their parents go off to work for the day. However, by volunteering on the School Break project you can help to provide activities and education during these unstructured times.
Volunteers help in the months of July - August on holiday programs, where you can assist with lessons, games and activities. The children who attend these programs are often from low-income families with few alternatives for productive activities.
By helping to stimulate students you’re able to add to their learning and give them enthusiasm and continuity in their education. You could be teaching a range of subjects or taking different games to keep them interested, engaged and having fun. You’ll also help to prepare for a final presentation at the end of the school break, which involves their parents all coming along to see their dances, songs and plays.
You are not required to have experience in teaching or working with children to participate on this project, as you will be working with the support of a local instructor.
This project is only open during the school holiday months of July - August. Volunteers can transfer to another project outside of these dates.
