Social stigma still surrounds special needs in Jordan and with a lack of support, there are many families who are unable to properly care for family members who have mental and physical disabilities. Centers providing individualized care and education make a huge difference to the lives of people living with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
As a Special Needs Support volunteer in Jordan you can help enrich the lives of these people by providing support in centers that are dedicated to improving their well-being and quality of life.
You’ll help a team of local staff and fellow volunteers to run educational lessons, games and activities such as arts and crafts, tapestry and woodwork for children and adults who attend the special needs centers each day. For those with relevant training or experience, you can also assist with treatment, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation.
This project is well suited to compassionate, patient and caring volunteers who have a strong interest in working with people with special needs. Previous experience with individuals with special needs is preferred, but because you’ll be working closely with the local placement staff, you don’t need to have any. If you want to be involved in physical therapy, then you should have appropriate training.
