Arts and music are a universal language that can bring people closer together regardless of their backgrounds. The Arts and Music project in Jordan works to help child refugees and children from other marginalized communities by using creative outlets to raise awareness of different social issues.
You’ll work alongside a team of local staff and fellow volunteers helping to run creative workshops which use art and music therapy as a means of empowering students to make positive changes in their own community and way of life. Themes can include diversity, gender equality, the pursuit of their dreams, deforestation, the impact of plastic on the world and climate change. By looking at universal issues, these lessons can also help students to understand their roles as global citizens in the world.
You’ll also help to promote a variety of important life skills such as creativity, confidence, communication, problem solving and team-work.
This project is well suited to creative volunteers with skills in art or music, who are also passionate about global issues and working with children. Many placements tend to have a stronger focus on art as opposed to music, though if you want to do more music-related activities, please note that on your application. It may be helpful to bring your own musical equipment with you in these instances, and please also be prepared to take part in art activities if required.
