International Volunteer HQ is proud to share that Armando Wunsch of Brazil and Hannah Pitts of Australia have been voted our Teach & Volunteer Abroad Scholarship winners from a group of 12 inspiring finalists.
After a 2-week voting process which brought in over 7,000 votes, Armando and Hannah emerged as our top-voted finalists and have each been awarded with a sponsored IVHQ volunteer program plus our internationally-recognized 100-hour online TEFL course to take before departing for their programs.
With the support of the scholarship, Hannah has chosen to teach English in Costa Rica, while Armando will be heading over to Guatemala to volunteer on our teaching English project. Both Hannah and Armando are passionate teachers with years of experience and a great deal of enthusiasm to bring to the classroom.
With over four years of experience teaching English in Brazil, Armando is currently in the process of developing an online platform called POP Culture ESL which is designed to engage his students in learning English. We were inspired by Armando’s enthusiasm for teaching English as a second language and his desire to translate his IVHQ experience to raise cultural awareness among his students back in Brazil.
After finishing up her third year of teaching in Australia, Hannah is heading off on a sabbatical to Latin America to make room for new adventures and challenges. Armed with the Spanish skills she has acquired over the past six months and her existing international teaching experience, we’re confident Hannah will be effective in connecting with the students she has the opportunity to work with in Costa Rica.
While abroad, both Armando and Hannah will be blogging for IVHQ, sharing their volunteering experiences and and how they’re applying the skills they’ve developed from the TEFL course to their teaching placements.
If you’re interested in getting TEFL certified to help you succeed in teaching English overseas, or to gain paid teaching opportunities abroad, learn more about our 100-hour online TEFL course. If you’re in full-time study or employment, not to worry - this world-class course can be completed in your own time, at your own pace!
