The Atlas Mountains are a stunning natural range in North Africa, and home to the indigenous Amazigh (or Berber) community. They live a traditional life based around working the land, and are responsible for much of the popular art, crafts and music that Morocco is famous for. Volunteers get a rare immersive cultural experience, living in a village in the mountains and helping with all aspects of daily life.
You’ll be placed in rural villages in the Atlas Mountains, helping in community centers with teaching English, childcare, agriculture and women’s education.
Your English classes will be open to locals of all ages, helping with their cultural appreciation and greatly improving their chances of finding work elsewhere.
Many agricultural tasks benefit from volunteer assistance, and you can help with feeding animals, managing offspring, milking and animal husbandry, as well as horticultural jobs including ploughing, seeding, weeding and harvesting crops.
This project is well suited to volunteers who want to get out of their comfort zone, experience a new culture and be immersed in a new way of life.
Please note this placement is located approximately two hours from Marrakech, so volunteers can expect the villages to be very remote and have extremely basic facilities. The majority of the villagers also don’t speak English, so you’ll need to be creative in finding ways to communicate.Apply now
