Ramadan takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and Muslims worldwide observe this as a month of fasting. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking.
In Morocco, around 98% of the population are practising Muslims. The Ramadan project provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to experience Ramadan in a Muslim culture, while helping socially disadvantaged families and brightening the daily lives of the children in poor neighborhoods.
As a volunteer during Ramadan, you’ll help to support Muslim families in a range of tasks. You’ll help to teach English, organize workshops on ethics and values, run sports activities, organize local field trips and collect food.
You don’t need to be a practising Muslim to volunteer, but you are required to observe Ramadan customs while in Morocco.
The Ramadan project is only available during the four weeks of Ramadan, which changes every year, but falls between March - May for the next few years.
