Those with disabilities in Cambodia are often rejected by society and can struggle to get access to the help they need to overcome their challenges. Classes are held for them, but without volunteer assistance those helping to run the classes can find it hard to provide focused attention to everyone. Caring, compassionate volunteers help to provide personalized care to children and young adults with a range of special needs.
When you volunteer with disabled people, you’ll be based in special needs classes within primary schools, helping local teachers with special education, basic activities of daily living, social and community skills, physical rehabilitation and psychological support. Those with relevant skills and experience can also help with therapeutic treatments and work one-on-one with special needs children.
You can help those with a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, and other intellectual disabilities. When helping with classes, volunteers enable them to be divided into smaller groups where individual needs can be better catered for. Volunteers may also take part on outreach work, where they visit the homes of students who cannot attend class.
This project is well suited to volunteers who care about helping those less fortunate. All Special Needs Care volunteers are required to obtain a health certificate from your doctor prior to starting, declaring you fit to work with individuals with special needs.
