I gained so much from this trip, I gained a new sense of independence, even in my short time volunteering I felt as if I made a difference. I was super nervous about traveling solo but IVHQ made it so easy and comfortable.

I gained another level of gratitude for what I have - my health, my wealth and especially my freedom. I really feel like I gained another family from my home stay to the kids I worked with. In just 2 weeks it all felt like home. My heart will forever be in Guatemala and with all those who I had the pleasure of connecting with, especially the children. My advice to others is just do it! If you have ever had the urge to really immerse yourself and be open to learning a new culture then go. If you ever had the desire to give back and make an impact, this opportunity is the go. If you want to grow and be create meaningful memories beyond your wildest dreams then go. I promise as long as you have an open mind and heart, and some curiosity you will not be disappointed. It is better to die with memories than dreams.

During my time in Guatemala, I served as the primary provider at a free municipal clinic delivering essential care to underserved patients alongside social workers, physical therapists, and a translator. Each day involved treating 10–20 individuals for a wide range of conditions, from diabetes and hypertension to musculoskeletal pain and mental health concerns, with a focus on high-impact, resource-conscious interventions. The experience offered profound insights into family medicine, cultural humility, and the challenges of healthcare access in low-resource settings. Beyond the clinic, I participated in community outreach, including food drives and local initiatives, which deepened my appreciation for the connection between health, culture, and community. My homestay in Antigua further enriched the experience through warm hospitality and daily cultural immersion, making this a deeply rewarding and reflective journey.
