Travel Bloggers Scholarship Terms and Condtitions

  1. Information on the program prize and how to enter form part of these conditions of entry. By applying for this scholarship, the entrant agrees to be bound by these conditions of entry and all decisions of the program promoter (International Volunteer HQ), which are final in all matters relating to the promotion. The program and these conditions of entry are void where prohibited by law. Any changes to these conditions of entry will be published on the International Volunteer HQ website at www.volunteerhq.org

  2. The promoter is International Volunteer HQ, 99 Devon Street West, New Plymouth, 4310.

  3. Employees of International Volunteer HQ and members of their immediate families or households are ineligible to apply for this scholarship.

  4. Entry is free. One entry per person. Entrants must be older than 18 years of age at the closure of applications (11:59pm, 28 August 2016) and hold a valid passport with at least 6 months validity. To enter, entrants must submit a blog post (3000 words max) on any of the themes outlined on the scholarship page. Entrants are also required to complete an entry form, including contact details, a short essay (200 characters max) on why they should be selected, and their IVHQ volunteer program of choice.

  5. The scholarship entries can be submitted from 17 July 2016 until 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST) on 28 August 2016. Entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt by International Volunteer HQ and International Volunteer HQ records are conclusive as to the time of receipt. All dates are subject to change if necessary in International Volunteer HQ’s discretion.

  6. On 29 August 2016, a selection scholarship submissions will be shortlisted based on the following criteria: originality, descriptive ability, writing style, eye for detail, value as a resource for future IVHQers and community engagement (based on social shares and views of the submission). The entrants will be notified via email to advise if they have have been selected as finalists. These finalists will be required to support IVHQ in creating a personal author profile to be published on the IVHQ website alongside their submission. From 4 September 2016, the finalists’ submissions will be published on International Volunteer HQ’s website and a group of judges will then select a winning submission based on the above criteria. The judging will be conducted between 4 September 2016 and 16 September 2016, during which time the judges will select one overall winner. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into, including in the event of a dispute. Chance plays no part in determining the successful scholarship recipient.

  7. The scholarship recipient will receive the following;

  • IVHQ Registration Fee and 2-week IVHQ Program Fee

  • US$1500 flight voucher from Student Universe

  • 1x Advanced Travel Writing course from Matador U Travel Media School

The prize cannot be refunded, transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash.

  1. The scholarship recipient must begin the volunteer program before 30 April 2017.

  2. As part of the scholarship, the successful recipient must:

  • Submit five featured blog posts with photos from his/her volunteer trip (within 2 months of completing the program) that will be published on International Volunteer HQ’s website and social media channels.

  • Share photos of his/her volunteer trip to Instagram so that we can follow your journey.

  1. The scholarship recipient will be notified via email or phone and the winner’s name will be published on the International Volunteer HQ website within 14 days following selection.

  2. If the scholarship recipient has not accepted the prize within 7 days, the next best entry will be selected as the scholarship recipient.

  3. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost or misdirected submissions or any errors or failures in internet or other communications. International Volunteer HQ reserves the right to cancel or modify the scholarship promotion if, in its sole discretion, the administration of the scholarship promotion is impaired for technical or other reasons beyond its reasonable control and, in such an event, may select the Scholarship recipient from all valid entries received prior to the impairment.

  4. The scholarship recipient will be responsible for paying the costs associated with traveling to the volunteer program, which includes but is not limited to visas, vaccinations, criminal background check, spending money, and flights costs. If the flights costs exceed the value of the $1500 StudentUniverse voucher, the scholarship recipient will be responsible for paying difference.

  5. As the author of your entry, you warrant that your entry is original and your own work, and give International Volunteer HQ permission to publish and promote your blog post via the IVHQ website.

  6. By entering the scholarship, the entrant consents to being entered into a database and the promoter (International Volunteer HQ) may use this information for future email promotions and marketing purposes, which they can choose to opt out of at any time. Furthermore, competition entrants consent that their emails may be used by any scholarship partners for future email promotions and marketing purposes.

  7. The scholarship recipient is also subject to the International Volunteer HQ Terms and Conditions of Service.
