Working with children is no sweat for Tessa Hankinson. The 25-year-old is currently an au-pair for two children in London. Not to mention she only has one more placement to finish in Australia before she picks up her Masters in Teaching. “I believe all children should have the access to reach their goals and achieve their dreams,” she says. “Volunteering my time will give me the opportunity to make a positive impact on their lives.” Having recently taken up studying French, Tessa would love to volunteer in a country where it is one of the main languages spoken. “I hope volunteering abroad will immerse me in a different culture, language and leave me with amazing memories and lasting friendships.”

Why are you passionate about teaching English abroad?

I have always been passionate about sharing my knowledge and working with others, specifically children/young people. I love exploring, as well as a challenge, which is why I moved from Australia to London - not to mention the easy access to European travel! I’m passionate about teaching English abroad because I believe all children should have the access to reach their goals and achieve their dreams. Volunteering my time will give me the opportunity to make a positive impact on their lives.

What experience/skills can you apply to teaching English abroad?

I am currently an Au-Pair for two (gorgeous) children in London - a city I have dreamt of living in for many years. I really enjoy and have a lot of fun being around and interacting with young people. In Australia I studied teaching and have many years experience as a netball coach - another passion of mine.

I have recently taken up studying French which is why I would love to volunteer in a country where it is one of the main languages spoken.

Why do you believe you will be effective in teaching English abroad?

I am passionate about working with young people and enjoy seeing positive outcomes from teaching people. I have lots of experience working with young people and am willing to learn and push myself to succeed in helping others less fortunate than I am.

What are you looking to gain from the experience?

I would love to come away from volunteering my time having impacted someone’s life in a positive way. Sharing my knowledge to benefit others in another country would be an invaluable experience for me and I hope volunteering abroad will immerse me in a different culture, language, leave me with amazing memories and lasting friendships!
