Volunteer tasks:

• Collect and remove waste along the coastline near Henties Bay and around the volunteer house
• Help clean an average of 350 kg of trash per week
• Sort, weigh, and record collected debris for tracking purposes
• Maintain and clean camping gear used during conservation trips
• Observe Cape fur seals at Pelican Point for behavioral and environmental insights
• Participate in coastal clean-up missions extending from Swakopmund both north and south
• Raise awareness among visitors and local communities about the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems for biodiversity
• Take part in conservation camping experiences at Jakkalsputz and St. Nowhere

Volunteer tasks:

• Maintain and monitor camera traps, as well as sort through the captured images
• Participate in environmental rehabilitation projects, such as replacing fences with wire braids
• Attend research presentations to stay informed on conservation efforts
• Contribute to forest conservation and revegetation initiatives
• Focus on research related to spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation
• Join game-count drives to help monitor wildlife populations
• Collect and sort camera trap data, which will be shared with the sanctuary's research office
• Engage in carnivore research, including studying spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals, and bat-eared foxes
• Assist with ongoing efforts at Kanaan Desert Retreat, including removing jackal-proof fences and repurposing wire to prevent illegal vehicle access while allowing wildlife to pass freely underneath
• Contribute to the creation and installation of owl boxes at waterholes
• Hike to track and observe the recent activities of carnivores
• Experience Kanaan's vast desert environment, where spotting wildlife can be more challenging due to the open landscape

• You can choose from the following pickup times from the volunteer house: 4am, 10am, 2pm, or 6pm
• Families and friends traveling together on the same flight will only need to budget for one airport drop-off. However, please be aware that luggage space is limited, so plan accordingly.
• If you are a solo traveler, please note that if you pre-book your airport drop-off through your profile and end up sharing the ride with other volunteers heading to the airport at the same time, we are unable to provide refunds.
