San Diego has one of the highest low income and homeless populations in western America, and this population has only increased in the last few years due to lack of affordable housing. The Community Development project endeavors to provide support structures in the heart of San Diego, which aims to directly benefit the lives of those who rely on support services for food, shelter, clothing and other necessities.
Volunteers can expect to assist with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to coordinating food outreach campaigns, renovating homeless shelters, sorting and distributing donations, supporting urban farms and food access initiatives, collecting housing data, assisting with education programs in community centers, and other administrative tasks as required.
This is a perfect project for caring volunteers with a passion for helping disadvantaged people and communities. You will be making a tangible contribution to a worthy cause and having a direct impact to better the lives of people who can often feel marginalized by society, but are exceedingly grateful for the support they receive.
Why volunteer in San Diego?
San Diego’s fusion of Californian and Mexican cultures is evident in its rich history, delicious food, unique neighborhoods, nightlife, sweeping coastal views and year-round sunshine. Unfortunately, people who overcome homelessness in San Diego return to the streets at a much higher rate than in other West Coast cities. Volunteering on our Community Development program helps increase access to the support services needed to prevent homelessness, while allowing you to soak up San Diego’s sights like a local.
