Where can I volunteer on an alternative break program?

You can volunteer abroad with IVHQ in over 35 destinations across Africa, Asia, Central America, South America and the Pacific. As an IVHQ volunteer, you have the opportunity to support a range of projects, including teaching, NGO support, community development, childcare, wildlife conservation, environmental conservation, construction and renovation, and sports development.

Can I join an alternative break trip group?

You sure can! If you’re looking to join a group of students to volunteer abroad for the upcoming winter break, we have customized 1-week and 2-week alternative break programs available in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru and Romania. These programs incorporate the perfect mix of volunteering, cultural immersion and tourism activities and have been designed by our Groups Specialists and in-country teams to ensure that you are making a positive impact in a short space of time. Whether you are looking to sign up as an individual or with a friend, you will not be alone on one of these small group tours.

If the dates for the alternative break programs listed above are not suitable, or if you would like to volunteer in another destination, you can volunteer as an individual which gives you the flexibility to decide when you would like to volunteer and how long you wish to participate on a program for. As an IVHQ volunteer, you can choose to volunteer for durations ranging from 1 week to 24 weeks, and you will be in the company of like-minded volunteer travelers on the program you choose to join. Can I organize my own group for an alternative break program?

Of course! If you want organize your own alternative break program for a group of friends, we'll work with your group to build a customized itinerary that meets your academic goals, caters to the varying interests of your student group, and aligns with the personal development objectives. Our in-house groups specialists can also assist in organizing extracurricular activities and day trips to ensure your group makes the most of your learning and cultural experience abroad.
