Just do it! I was hesitant and didn’t really know how it would go but so glad I did this. The volunteering work was incredibly rewarding and the ability to travel during downtime is even better. But for me the best part was how immersed in the culture you are living with an Argentinian family and working with locals and fellow volunteers. It’s an experience that can’t be matched!

Project details
Keen to kick off a new adventure as a Sports volunteer in Argentina - Córdoba? International Volunteer HQ’s Sports project places volunteers in after-school programs where they gain experience working with young people and sharing their passion for sport. The children and teens benefit from the physical exercise and recreation that helps to keep them healthy, active and engaged with the community in a socially positive way.
What to expect and how you'll make an impact
In the heart of Córdoba’s underprivileged neighborhoods, the absence of constructive after-school activities often leads young people to roam aimlessly. But with IVHQ, you have the chance to make a difference and be part of a project dedicated to offering older children and teens exciting alternatives.
Picture this: instead of loitering around, they’re diving into soccer matches or shooting hoops, surrounded by friends and mentors who care. By channeling their energy into sports, we’re not just keeping them busy—we’re helping them forge friendships, boost their confidence, and stay fit.
As a Sports volunteer, you’ll be right there in the action, helping organize and lead activities every weekday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. While soccer and basketball are crowd favorites, your passion for any sport is encouraged —we just ask that you keep in mind that resources are tight so your creativity and flexibility will be key. Feel free to bring along some gear from home or pick some up locally—it’s all about making a difference, one game at a time.
The tasks involved as a Sports volunteer can be diverse, but typically, you’ll find yourself:
- Guiding and coaching older children and teenagers
- Assisting in the organization of sports games and drills
- Arranging and preparing various games and activities
- Sharing your passion for sports and fostering a love for physical activity
- Please note that this project takes place outdoors and daily activities will depend on the weather.

What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
I feel like I have grown as a person, not only from the volunteer placements where I worked but also from the people I met, and the things I learnt from them.
The communication and security I had from the on ground team was amazing, and the close connections I made with the other volunteers was brilliant. The volunteering itself was really eye opening and I felt like it had a massive impact on me as a person.
You just have to try it out and go in with a positive attitude, and everything will end up amazing. It gave me more confidence to learn a new language and meet new people from other countries.
Cordoba definitely won't disappoint! The local team were amazing and were extremely accommodating and kind. It was also great to see the smiles that we would put on people's faces and I feel like I am more open to meeting and talking to new people now.
If someone was hesitant about volunteering abroad I would just tell them that it's now or never. One of the other volunteers who were on the program with me told me this, and it's something I plan to incorporate into the rest of my life from now on. Life is scary no matter what, but why not have the memories of doing something instead of just the fear? What really made an impact on me though was when I got to hear the stories from the elderly at the facility. I had never thought it would mean so much to them just having us there participating in activities with them, but the effect it had was very big in their eyes. The local team were also amazing and were so welcoming and friendly even with the language barrier.

It covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program in Córdoba – an introduction to Argentina, culture and customs, rules and expectations, safety, travel opportunities, and an introduction to project and placement. The orientation will also give you a chance to meet other volunteers and swap contact details for weekend travel and socialising.

Weekends
Maybe the rhythm of Córdoba’s famous cuarteto music will call to your feet, maybe you’ll forage for a flea market bargain, take a trip to the Che Guevara Museum, adventure in the mountains, try Argentina’s beloved Fernet and Coke or spend your time discovering the Jesuit Block. Maybe you’ll do it all and more, or just relax in a peaceful park and sip a coffee. In any case there’s no shortage of things to see and do during your free time in Córdoba. But if it’s time for a change of scene, Córdoba’s central location means it’s easy to hop on a plane or jump in a car or bus and visit Argentina’s buzzy capital, Buenos Aires, or pay a visit to the Mendoza wine region or the city of Rosario. If the outdoors are your thing, there’s plenty of trekking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, paragliding, and abseiling fun to be had in the Córdoba region and nearby.
