I think that this program was really helpful for me to grow up and to socialize. I am normally shy but in Zanzibar I have learned to be in contact and interact with others all the time. Plus, I have discovered a new culture and realized how lucky I am to have what I have in my country! Also, I had the opportunity to improve my English as well.

What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
I’ve gained so many friends for life. This trip has been so eye-opening and also a great opportunity to get to see another part of the world while also making a difference. My advice to someone hesitant? Do it.
Jump in and take yourself out of your comfort zone! You will experience life in another culture whilst making friends with like minded people worldwide.
This program has helped me grow as a person and allowed me to discover a new culture. I highly recommend it to everyone!
I feel that I learned and experienced so much more from this trip than I ever would have if I had just visited Zanzibar as a tourist. By working in the local community, you get to help make a small difference with the work they do and learn how they live their lives. It has changed how I look at my own lifestyle and has shown me how privileged we really are. If someone is hesitant about going, I can understand that, I was scared before I left too. But once you have an open mind about what you will experience, then you will adapt more easily to the new culture. Everyone in the local team and community there is so kind and helpful, and meeting the other volunteers you get to make lifelong friends!
The preparation resources helped me have a more clear idea of what I should expect and what will be expected from me as a volunteer. The local team was well organised and always gave support when needed.
