I have grown so much as a person from this experience. Had an amazing time from start to finish. The mamas and security guards were all so friendly and welcoming. A very humbling experience. This experience has made me grateful and also opened my eyes to a completely different way of living. My advice would be to do it!

From the time I landed to the airport drop-off, IVHQ took care of everything including excursion transports, food, lodging, and they were very flexible for me to stay my extra night at the Maasai boma instead of the volunteer house. The entire trip and experience was phenomenal.

I stepped into a journey that was every bit as transformative as I hoped it would be. After week one of volunteering in Tanzania, I’m left with a heart full of gratitude and a soul inspired by the strength and spirit of the communities I’ve met. One little girl, with her infectious laugh and boundless energy, taught me more about resilience and joy than I could have ever hoped to learn. The connections I’ve made and the smiles I’ve shared will forever remind me of the beauty of giving back.

Based on my experience, it was a life time adventure, which helped me grow as a person even at the twilight of my years. You can never be too old to grow and gain new perspective in life. I've established lifetime friendships there. I now have an "adopted" Maasai daughter there that I'm being invited to her wedding. Another person asked if I would consider relocating there.

The lush and green surroundings in Tanzania were beautiful. The people, despite how little they have are quite happy. Hakuna Matata!

I have managed to get out of my comfort zones. Even hanging out with the young and full of life people, was quite fun. I was the oldest, but some of those young people from all over the world didn't seem to mind my presence. I especially like when they didn't think I was a 70 year old woman.

And trekking part of the Mt. Kilimanjaro was an amazing feat that I can be very proud of. Asante sana IVHQ and THE! Your excellent collaborations and joint purposes made it possible for the people around the world to volunteer.

I can’t believe how much of an impact the volunteer program had on me. I spent my last day crying as I couldn’t believe how fast it flew by and wish I could’ve stayed longer. My kids specifically were absolutely so amazing and I’m blessed to have learnt from them as well.

My advice to others would be to remain open minded with a positive mindset as this will encourage the best experience as possible and don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn about the culture in Tanzania. All the staff are super helpful in Arusha and are always on call so never fear that you are alone out there.

I have gained so much appreciation for the little things in life and the way that life can slow down and become "pole pole" instead of being so busy. Tanzania has taught me to just do more and help as many people as I can always.

And advice for someone joining this program would be just go for it! It might feel a bit of a culture shock and scary on your first few days but that is completely normal. If you just say yes to everything you will meet friends for life, have once in a lifetime experiences and want to come straight back!
