The local team have been absolutely amazing - you can contact them any time with anything. They will make all arrangements no matter what your needs are. I was truly blessed, loved my home stay family. You are treated like family from the minute you arrive. I will miss the family.

The women at the centre taught me a lot. They are so grateful to you for spending time to help them. I had so much fun together! Lots of learning but with fun and laughter.

I went over thinking I was too old at 57 doing this. How wrong could I be. I have met so many wonderful friends from all over the world. Came away as part of a whole new family. I would say to anyone to go with no expectations and go with the flow. Not to worry as if you have any problems or just need help with little things the support you get from the host family and local team is amazing.

All of the family and staff were wonderful and warm. This was such a precious experience and one I will cherish forever. I miss it all and want to return!

The team is always trying their best to answer all our questions and make the process easier for volunteers. I will be volunteering with IVHQ again. The local team are nice people always willing to help in everything we needed. They are all lovely people. No complains! It is priceless to see how happy people are just to receive us. It was a blessing for me to receive their hospitality and willingness to accept what I had to give, as well as to share their life’s and time with me. I will always be grateful for this experience. My advice to other volunteers is that volunteering is a great experience, but we must be able to understand boundaries, have respect, be able to adapt to cultural differences, and try our best. So have an open mind and heart makes all difference. Be willing to serve and give without expecting anything back, makes the experience fulfilling and unforgettable. Being open, kind, eager to help, and ready to listen can make a big impact in ourselves, others, and their communities.

Through my participation in the IVHQ medical elective project, I gained invaluable insights and skills that have significantly enriched my understanding of healthcare and global medicine. One of the most significant gains was the firsthand exposure to diverse medical practices and patient care in a different cultural setting. This experience broadened my perspective on healthcare delivery and deepened my appreciation for cultural competency in medicine.

Moreover, working alongside experienced healthcare professionals in resource-limited settings taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of teamwork in overcoming challenges. I also developed strong communication skills through interacting with patients from various backgrounds, enhancing my ability to provide compassionate care and navigate language barriers.

For those hesitant about joining this program, I would offer the following advice: Embrace the opportunity for personal and professional growth that comes with stepping out of your comfort zone. While it's natural to feel apprehensive about working in unfamiliar environments, remember that every challenge presents a chance to learn and develop resilience. Approach the experience with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to making a positive impact. By immersing yourself in this program, you'll not only contribute to meaningful healthcare initiatives but also gain invaluable skills and insights that will shape your future career in medicine.

I knew it would be a great adventure and experience but I am so thankful I was able to achieve so much in just two weeks! Meeting lots of locals, living like a local, visiting all the famous sites, hikes, tours on the weekend and after the volunteer days, really immersed in the whole experience. IVHQ provided all the resources, preparation, online support and service to ensure every minute is maximised. Everyone I encountered locally were so kind, generous and informative - I was there to help teach ladies and I think they and Nepal taught me way more. Feel very grateful to have had this adventure, and highly recommend to others! You can volunteer and have a holiday at the same time, it only makes it that more enriching and immersive. Book yours today and make a difference while enjoying yourself.

The local team couldn't have made us feel any safer or at home. They explained everything to us and assisted in anyway they could. Accommodation and host family couldn't have been better. We got lucky with who we had and wouldn't hesitate going back again. I gained a lot more confidence as I was taken out of my comfort zone entirely. It really made me appreciate the life I have back home and sometimes you just need to take the risk, make that jump and see where life leads you. So happy I had this amazing experience.
