I got this wonderful opportunity from my university’s go global website which I am very grateful for. The team is awesome and their efforts and support is genuine and remarkable. I did learn and got the chance to help others learn in my volunteering journey. I still remember those happy faces and funny moments I have shared with the lovely ladies. As I am a Nepali citizen, I got to meet new people from volunteering backgrounds which has left a remarkable impact from my experience.

After my journey I went to meet my schools head teacher and he was so impressed with the platforms provided by IVHQ. Apart from this, I will definitely advise my friends and family to try and join this program.

IVHQ and Program Manager was very helpful with information and gave me the confidence I needed to try an unknown place.

I learned a lot about the culture, location and gained more experience working with Special Needs children. Particularly the changes in personality from day to Da and hour by hour.

My advice to people who want to give to communities should volunteer in various projects. They will learn culture, new food experiences and new parts of the world. Programs are a multitude to choose from and overall experience will not only be worthwhile but also fun.

IVHQ provided a lot of general information through the website and group video call with the Program Manager. Plus the Program Manager answered any queries I had.

The local team was friendly and available to answer any queries. They seemed really knowledgeable and if one member did not have an answer to a question they were able to communicate with someone who did.

This experience has opened my eyes to a beautiful country with culture different to what I have grown up with. Also making me aware of the everyday and larger struggles faced by Nepali people and children as well as the joy they contain despite that. It has made me feel empowered and confident in the belief that my actions can have a positive effect on others in whatever capacity. Also solidifying my plans in the future to work in the education sector. All while contributing to the building of my resilience in the face of challenges.

For anyone hesitant about joining the program, know you can ask your program manager any questions you have. Also do your own personal research on the placement. This will help you be more aware of what volunteering abroad is like and help to manage your expectations of the experience. Also be open-minded in your approach to becoming closely integrated into a new culture.

The local team helped me a lot to get adjusted and move around Kathmandu. I would like to thank them for ensuring I was comfortable throughout.

I gained more confidence and experience. I also gained knowledge about the country's culture. These programs help you to get out of your comfort zone and you get a chance to make a difference in people's lives. I highly recommend it.

I’ve been able to meet like-minded people, immerse myself in the culture by living with a local family, and engage in the community by making a difference where needed. I feel so incredibly fortunate to have been able to experience this as it has genuinely given me a new perspective. I would 100% recommend it. My advice would be that if you have the capacity to help others, why wouldn’t you? And that you’ll never regret making a difference in other peoples lives. Volunteering experience aside, IVHQ is a great organisation to go through as they are helpful and organised.

My advice? Don't hesitant! If you can, go. My personal interest was in learning about elephants and about Nepal, and I feel I learned a lot for two weeks. I was very grateful for the organisation and the friendliness of the staff, and I will never forget my moments of 'connection' with the elephants. They are amazing beasts.
