Just do it! Immerse yourself in the island's rich culture while kickstarting your journey with our dynamic 5-day Culture Week in Lovina! Get a head start on your program by soaking up local traditions, bonding with fellow volunteers, and diving into Bali Lovina's must-do activities. This week is designed to give you everything you need to know, all while experiencing the beauty and magic of Balinese life. Here's what you can look forward to:

Culture Week Schedule:

DAY 1 | Kick off with an insightful introduction to the IVHQ Bali-Lovina Program. Meet our friendly local staff, learn about Indonesian customs, safety guidelines, and expectations. Then, enjoy a scenic walking tour of Lovina’s highlights (1–2 hours), followed by a captivating cultural class.

DAY 2 | Dive deeper into Bali’s spiritual side with a visit to a peaceful Buddhist temple. Afterward, you will start learning Bahasa, the Indonesian language to get equipped to communicate with locals more easily.

DAY 3 | Put on your chef’s hat for an Indonesian cooking class, where you’ll learn traditional Balinese dishes. Follow up with another Bahasa lesson to sharpen your language skills in the afternoon. 

DAY 4 | Rejuvenate at the popular Lovina Hot Springs before learning how to make a flower offering for the Bali’s sacred flower offering tradition, an essential part of daily spiritual life.

DAY 5 | Prepare for your upcoming volunteer project with an in-depth orientation, ensuring you're ready and confident to start your placement the following Monday.

This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on the needs of the project, local weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances

This Culture week ensures that by the time Monday arrives, you'll feel fully prepared to dive into your project, energized by the friendships and memories you've already made!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Kuta. Arrive at any time. For your first night out, explore the exciting paradise of Kuta with your CEO and fellow travellers. Stop in a local bar or enjoy your favourite drink on the beach and cheers to new adventures and friends as the sun sets.

Accommodation: The Rivavi Legian (or similar) - Hotel

Today's activities:
  • Connect with new friends: Connect with new friends on your first night out in a new destination. Only available on 18-to-Thirtysomethings tours.
  • Meet Your CEO and Group: Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.

Day 2: Kuta. Today, take it easy in beachside Kuta. Take a surf lesson (which you can book ahead of time), relax on the beach, or head to one of the nearby towns. Tonight, take in the town's nightlife on the dancefloor or by the waves at a beachside bar.

Today's activities:
  • Free Time: Check out one of the area's beaches or opt for a full-day surf lesson.

Day 3: Kuta/Bulian. It's off to Bulian today. Breathe in the beautiful scenery before stopping for lunch en route at the G Adventures supported Bali Community Training Lunch Program. Tonight, soak in the views and lush jungle vibes at a charming guesthouse, located in a Balinese village. Start your night by watching the sunset over the lush landscape.

Accommodation: Bulian Homestay (or similar) - Homestay (Accommodations at this property are multi-share)

Today's activities:
  • Private Vehicle: Kuta - Ubud, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Bali Community Training Lunch Program: Enjoy lunch at the Bali Community Training Lunch Program. This initiative supports and assists people living with disabilities in Bali to find independence and meaningful employment through training in the hospitality sector. In Hindu-Bali, it is a societal belief that being born with a disability is a product of "bad karma". Our ground partners are working in the community to break down these stereotypes, and provide resources, training, and education to adults living with disabilities to gain independence and confidence, and find employment within their community. Fully managed and operated by individuals living with disabilities, enjoy a delicious traditional Balinese buffet lunch prepared by the organization while learning more about this initiative that empowers individuals through skills and employment training. All proceeds from this included lunch support the organization's training, education, advocacy and outreach programs, as well as resources such as wheelchairs and three-wheeled mopeds.
  • Private Vehicle: Ubud - Bulian, 1 hour and 45 minutes. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Bulian Guesthouse Experience: Bulian Homestay is a community run guesthouse, managed by a strong, dedicated woman of that village, who created an employment opportunity for other women and vulnerable youth of the community, with the hope of preserving their culture and preventing rural urban migration. By supporting this experience you will be directly impacting close to 50 people from the local community and indirectly impacting around 100 people living in the community. Bulian Homestay is a traditional Balinese Style house, converted into a comfortable guesthouse for travelers coming to this quaint village, around 2 hours from Ubud, Bali.

Day 4: Bulian. Get ready to liven up your tastebuds with a Balinese cooking lesson. After, you can trek around the village, visit a waterfall, swim in a natural spring, or stop by a nearby dragon fruit farm.

Today's activities:
  • Free Time: Enjoy free time in this charming Balinese village.
  • Bulian Village Tour: Learn the unique history of this isolated village and why it's sometimes referred to as the "Lost Kingdom" or "The Land of Curse." We'll embark on a tour of the village and get to know the local people as you wander past plantations, schools, and temples. Dress in local clothing and prepare offerings made of leaves and flowers before heading to a spiritual ceremony where you meet a local priest.
  • Bulian Cooking Class: Learn how to cook local recipes during this immersive cooking class at the homestay, then enjoy your creations and a buffet dinner.

Day 5: Bulian/Ubud. This morning's free for you to explore or relax. Later, check out Ubud and visit the picturesque Gitgit Waterfall or Pura Taman Saraswati, a Balinese Hindu temple with stunning lotus ponds. Both spots are perfect for photo ops!

  • Private Vehicle: Bulian - Gitgit, 45 minutes. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Gitgit Waterfall Visit: Discover one of the island's most beautiful locales with a visit to Gitgit waterfall. Snap some photos at the viewpoint before heading down to the base of the falls. Chill out and enjoy the lush green surroundings and opt to take a dip in the blue water.
  • Private Vehicle: Gitgit - Ubud, 2 hours. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Free Time: Start exploring Ubud with a free evening.
  • Free Time: Enjoy a morning at leisure to spend it however you'd like.

Day 6: Ubud. Today is full of possibilities. Stop by the monkey forest, a sanctuary for the long-tailed Balinese monkey, before checking out more of Ubud. Take a yoga class, relax with a massage, try babi guling (whole roast suckling pig), visit the holy springs of Tirta Empul to cleanse your body and spirit, and be sure to save some room for some delicious healthy eats - they're abundant here. Tonight, wrap up your time in Ubud with a traditional Kecak dance performance.

  • Monkey Forest Visit: Take a walk through the lush Monkey Forest. Keep your valuables close as these cheeky creatures are bound to grab anything that isn't nailed down.
  • Free Time: Take advantage of this happening spot with free time. Opt to raft, cycle, take a cooking class, or chill out with some yoga.

Day 7: Ubud/Gili Trawangan. It's off to the beautifully laid-back island of Gili Trawangan today. Slow it all down with relaxing at a beachfront bar, stopping for photos at the Gili Trawangan swing, and - best of all - enjoying walking around freely (the island doesn't allow motorized vehicles). The rest of the day is yours to explore.

Today's activities:
  • Private Vehicle: Ubud - Padangbai, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Boat: Padangbai - Gili Trawangan, 2 hours. Climb aboard and get your float on.
  • Free Time: Gili Trawangan. Relax on the beach or rent a bike and explore the island with some free time.

Day 8: Gili Trawangan. Spend another day in paradise. Explore the island by bicycle, or just kick back on the beach. Don't forget to catch your last marvelous sunset of the trip on the west side of the island, before celebrating the end of an amazing journey with your fellow travellers for your big night out.

Today's activities:
  • Free Time: Chill out by the beach or opt for a snorkelling excursion with free time.
  • Beach Celebration: Settle in to a laid-back beach bar and enjoy your last night out with new friends. Reminisce about your favourite life-changing adventures from the trip. Maybe go for a night swim, who knows, see where the night takes you.

Day 9: Gili Trawangan. Today, it's time to say goodbye to your group of newfound friends as the tour ends. Be sure to sneak in some last-minute photos and cheers before you head on your way.

The Adventure week is the ideal opportunity to explore Bali's adventurous side, featuring a thrilling cycle tour, visits to an active volcano, and exploration of spice plantations and rice fields. You'll hike through stunning mountains and participate in turtle conservation efforts, all designed to unleash your adventurous spirit.  Plus, you'll meet fellow volunteers, swap contact details, and plan exciting weekends together. Here's what you can look forward to:

Introduction Week Schedule:

Monday | Kick off your week with a cycling tour to Kintamani, where you’ll soak in the gorgeous landscape of Batur Mountain and explore spice plantations and rice fields. Breakfast and lunch will be enjoyed during the tour.

Tuesday | After breakfast, embark on a tour of Southern Bali from 8am to 4pm, visiting the Turtle Center on Serangan Island and enjoy surfing at Kuta Beach for 1.5 to 2 hours (lunch included). Please remember to bring sunscreen and drinking water.

Wednesday | You will embark on a thrilling rafting adventure on the Ayung River right after breakfast! Experience the rush of navigating through stunning landscapes and lush greenery. Lunch will be provided during a break in the tour.

Thursday | You will trek up the volcano early in the morning to catch a breathtaking sunrise. Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the summit, surrounded by the beauty of nature. Following your descent, you’ll return to your accommodation, where a lunch awaits you. Spend the rest of the day unwinding and reflecting on the incredible experience, allowing yourself to relax and recharge.

Friday | Wrap up your week with a rejuvenating Balinese massage, specially designed to harmonize your mind and body. This soothing experience will help you release any tension and leave you feeling refreshed. Following the massage, take some time to unwind and reflect on the incredible memories you've made during your stay in Bali.

It is important to note, this schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

Culture Week Schedule:

DAY 1 | Kick off with an insightful introduction to the IVHQ Bali - Ubud Program. Meet our friendly local staff, learn about Indonesian customs, safety guidelines, and expectations. Then, enjoy a walking tour of Monkey Street and Ubud Market. After lunch, dive into a class on Balinese culture before ending the day with an early dinner and a vibrant Balinese dance show.

DAY 2 | Start your day with a Balinese language class at 9:30am that will immerse you in the local dialect. After a delicious lunch, set out on a village walking tour at 2pm to explore the stunning rice terraces, vibrant art village, and picturesque hills. 

DAY 3 |  Follow up with another Bahasa lesson to sharpen your language skills in the morning then immerse yourself in a Batik painting class at 1pm, where you'll learn this beautiful art form. 

DAY 4 | Put on your chef’s hat for an Indonesian cooking class, where you’ll learn traditional Balinese dishes before learning how to make a flower offering for the Bali’s sacred flower offering tradition, an essential part of daily spiritual life.

DAY 5 | Embark on a spiritual tour at 9am to visit the renowned "Pura Tirta Empul," the holy water temple, where you can enjoy a refreshing shower in the sacred waters. After a late lunch at the house, gather for a project meeting at 3pm to prepare for your upcoming volunteer project.

Day 1: Kuta. Arrive at any time. For your first night out, explore the exciting paradise of Kuta with your CEO and fellow travellers. Stop in a local bar or enjoy your favourite drink on the beach and cheers to new adventures and friends as the sun sets.

Today's activities:
  • Connect with new friends: Connect with new friends on your first night out in a new destination. Only available on 18-to-Thirtysomethings tours.
  • Meet Your CEO and Group: Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.

Day 2: Kuta. Today, take it easy in beachside Kuta. Take a surf lesson (which you can book ahead of time), relax on the beach, or head to one of the nearby towns. Tonight, take in the town's nightlife on the dancefloor or by the waves at a beachside bar.

Tonight, soak in the views and lush jungle vibes at a charming guesthouse, located in a Balinese village. Start your night by watching the sunset over the lush landscape.

  • Bali Community Training Lunch Program: Enjoy lunch at the Bali Community Training Lunch Program. This initiative supports and assists people living with disabilities in Bali to find independence and meaningful employment through training in the hospitality sector. In Hindu-Bali, it is a societal belief that being born with a disability is a product of "bad karma". Our ground partners are working in the community to break down these stereotypes, and provide resources, training, and education to adults living with disabilities to gain independence and confidence, and find employment within their community. Fully managed and operated by individuals living with disabilities, enjoy a delicious traditional Balinese buffet lunch prepared by the organization while learning more about this initiative that empowers individuals through skills and employment training. All proceeds from this included lunch support the organization's training, education, advocacy and outreach programs, as well as resources such as wheelchairs and three-wheeled mopeds.
  • Private Vehicle: Ubud - Bulian, 1 hour and 45 minutes. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Bulian Guesthouse Experience: Bulian Homestay is a community run guesthouse, managed by a strong, dedicated woman of that village, who created an employment opportunity for other women and vulnerable youth of the community, with the hope of preserving their culture and preventing rural urban migration. By supporting this experience you will be directly impacting close to 50 people from the local community and indirectly impacting around 100 people living in the community. Bulian Homestay is a traditional Balinese Style house, converted into a comfortable guesthouse for travelers coming to this quaint village, around 2 hours from Ubud, Bali.

Day 4: Bulian. Get ready to liven up your tastebuds with a Balinese cooking lesson. After, you can trek around the village, visit a waterfall, swim in a natural spring, or stop by a nearby dragon fruit farm.

Today's activities:
  • Free Time: Enjoy free time in this charming Balinese village.
  • Bulian Village Tour: Learn the unique history of this isolated village and why it's sometimes referred to as the "Lost Kingdom" or "The Land of Curse." We'll embark on a tour of the village and get to know the local people as you wander past plantations, schools, and temples. Dress in local clothing and prepare offerings made of leaves and flowers before heading to a spiritual ceremony where you meet a local priest.
  • Bulian Cooking Class: Learn how to cook local recipes during this immersive cooking class at the homestay, then enjoy your creations and a buffet dinner.

Day 5: Bulian/Ubud. This morning's free for you to explore or relax. Later, check out Ubud and visit the picturesque Gitgit Waterfall or Pura Taman Saraswati, a Balinese Hindu temple with stunning lotus ponds. Both spots are perfect for photo ops!

  • Gitgit Waterfall Visit: Discover one of the island's most beautiful locales with a visit to Gitgit waterfall. Snap some photos at the viewpoint before heading down to the base of the falls. Chill out and enjoy the lush green surroundings and opt to take a dip in the blue water.
  • Private Vehicle: Gitgit - Ubud, 2 hours. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
  • Free Time: Start exploring Ubud with a free evening.
  • Free Time: Enjoy a morning at leisure to spend it however you'd like.

Day 6: Ubud. Today is full of possibilities. Stop by the monkey forest, a sanctuary for the long-tailed Balinese monkey, before checking out more of Ubud. Take a yoga class, relax with a massage, try babi guling (whole roast suckling pig), visit the holy springs of Tirta Empul to cleanse your body and spirit, and be sure to save some room for some delicious healthy eats - they're abundant here. Tonight, wrap up your time in Ubud with a traditional Kecak dance performance.

  • Monkey Forest Visit: Take a walk through the lush Monkey Forest. Keep your valuables close as these cheeky creatures are bound to grab anything that isn't nailed down.

Day 7: Ubud/Gili Trawangan. It's off to the beautifully laid-back island of Gili Trawangan today. Slow it all down with relaxing at a beachfront bar, stopping for photos at the Gili Trawangan swing, and - best of all - enjoying walking around freely (the island doesn't allow motorized vehicles). The rest of the day is yours to explore.

  • Private Vehicle: Ubud - Padangbai, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.

  • Free Time: Gili Trawangan. Relax on the beach or rent a bike and explore the island with some free time.

Day 8: Gili Trawangan. Spend another day in paradise. Explore the island by bicycle, or just kick back on the beach. Don't forget to catch your last marvelous sunset of the trip on the west side of the island, before celebrating the end of an amazing journey with your fellow travellers for your big night out.

  • Free Time: Chill out by the beach or opt for a snorkelling excursion with free time.

Day 9: Gili Trawangan. Today, it's time to say goodbye to your group of newfound friends as the tour ends. Be sure to sneak in some last-minute photos and cheers before you head on your way.

DAY 1 | Kick off with an insightful introduction to the IVHQ Bali-Lovina Program. Meet our friendly local staff, learn about Indonesian customs, safety guidelines, and expectations. Then, enjoy a scenic walking tour of Lovina’s highlights (1–2 hours), followed by a captivating cultural class.

DAY 2 | Dive deeper into Bali’s spiritual side with a visit to a peaceful Buddhist temple. Afterward, you will start learning Bahasa, the Indonesian language to get equipped to communicate with locals more easily.

DAY 3 | Put on your chef’s hat for an Indonesian cooking class, where you’ll learn traditional Balinese dishes. Follow up with another Bahasa lesson to sharpen your language skills in the afternoon. 

DAY 4 | Rejuvenate at the popular Lovina Hot Springs before learning how to make a flower offering for the Bali’s sacred flower offering tradition, an essential part of daily spiritual life.

Bali Adventure Week
Get ready for an exciting week in Bali filled with unforgettable moments! The Adventure week is the ideal opportunity to explore Bali's adventurous side, featuring a thrilling cycle tour, visits to an active volcano, and exploration of spice plantations and rice fields. You'll hike through stunning mountains and participate in turtle conservation efforts, all designed to unleash your adventurous spirit.  Plus, you'll meet fellow volunteers, swap contact details, and plan exciting weekends together. Here's what you can look forward to:

Introduction Week Schedule:

Monday | Kick off your week with a cycling tour to Kintamani, where you’ll soak in the gorgeous landscape of Batur Mountain and explore spice plantations and rice fields. Breakfast and lunch will be enjoyed during the tour.

Tuesday | After breakfast, embark on a tour of Southern Bali from 8am to 4pm, visiting the Turtle Center on Serangan Island and enjoy surfing at Kuta Beach for 1.5 to 2 hours (lunch included). Please remember to bring sunscreen and drinking water.

Wednesday | You will embark on a thrilling rafting adventure on the Ayung River right after breakfast! Experience the rush of navigating through stunning landscapes and lush greenery. Lunch will be provided during a break in the tour.

Thursday | You will trek up the volcano early in the morning to catch a breathtaking sunrise. Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the summit, surrounded by the beauty of nature. Following your descent, you’ll return to your accommodation, where a lunch awaits you. Spend the rest of the day unwinding and reflecting on the incredible experience, allowing yourself to relax and recharge.

Friday | Wrap up your week with a rejuvenating Balinese massage, specially designed to harmonize your mind and body. This soothing experience will help you release any tension and leave you feeling refreshed. Following the massage, take some time to unwind and reflect on the incredible memories you've made during your stay in Bali.

It is important to note, this schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

Important note:
  • The Adventure Week is an optional add-on, extending your stay by one week. If you're volunteering for two weeks, you’ll be hosted by the local team for a total of three weeks. 
  • If you're joining the Turtle Conservation project afterward, a transfer from Ubud to Nusa Penida will be required, with a fee of US$72 covering the boat ticket and transportation.
  • Volunteers who aren’t attending a program the following week will need to check out of their accommodation on Saturday.
