This program is ideal for:

Volunteers with an interest in health and teaching basic hygiene techniques. Qualified professionals can also run health campaigns or check-up clinics in local villages. You will need to speak fluent English to join this project.

Project details

Are you ready to help improve Health Education outcomes in Bali - Lovina? International Volunteer HQ’s Health Education project enables volunteers to instruct basic health skills in schools or, if qualified, to lead health campaigns in the community. Volunteers will acquire experience in Health Education and teaching, or in the medical field related to their campaign. Help the local community learn to be more prepared to manage their own well-being, enhancing their quality of life with better access to essential medical care.

What to expect and how you'll make an impact

Teaching health practices from an early age is crucial for the lifelong wellbeing of children, especially those in underserved communities who may lack access to essential health information. Volunteers teaching these important skills can make a meaningful difference to children.

As a Health Education volunteer, you’ll play an active role in the promotion of better health and wellbeing among young people. You’ll be based in schools in Lovina and teach basic hygiene and health skills. You’ll need to plan your lessons and get creative to keep the students engaged, remembering they will have limited English. Topics can include:

  • Brushing teeth and oral health
  • Handwashing techniques
  • Personal hygiene practices
  • Health and Nutrition

There are also opportunities for qualified medical doctors to run health campaigns for the local community. You’ll need to provide transcripts of your qualifications in advance, and should come prepared with an idea of what you want to focus on during your program. If it requires additional resources, you may also need to provide these yourself.

It was the best experience of my life. It made me grow and better understand a complex reality like that of Bali. There is nothing to fear, we must throw ourselves into new experiences and try to do our best to help those in difficulty.

Volunteering for teaching children sports in Lovina the team helped us all plan lessons for the specific age and with the equipment available. We modeled each activity before hand, as English wasn’t available, became more compassionate by watching these kids with minimum resources be happy, respectful and looking forward to learning. We could use our free time to go to the beach and socialise with locals, everyone is so friendly in Lovina. The first day we were resting at the beach and we had a big group of children that wanted to practice English with us. Also, when we had finished on Saturday we went to Menjangan for an amazing snorkelling experience. We loved it all.

I loved teaching in Bali, the children were kind and receptive - they really wanted to learn and I felt compelled to teach them as much as possible. I gained the ability to plan ahead well and to communicate in different ways in order to convey what I need to teach.

I think that in the moment you arrive to Bali you feel this “magical” energy. The local people are really grateful and they totally send this energy to you, they all are super grateful for your labor and that makes you feel like you really are making an impact, even a little one.

Me and my friends have lived the best 3 months of our life here, everything was amazing : the team, the volunteers, the culture, everything.

It has been such a pleasure to do the construction program, we got to learn so many things with the different projects. We are so proud of what we achieved. Our coordinator always helped us, trusted us and made us work in the best conditions. The local team in Lovina has been our home for the past months, and it was such a joy to be here everyday. I left with so many good memories with the volunteers and the team. If you have the opportunity to do a trip like this just do it, you will not regret it. And if you are looking for a family trip, go to Lovina, they are the best.

Location

Volunteer Abroad in Bali, Lovina with IVHQ

Location

Lovina is a charming coastal town located on the northern coast of Bali, Indonesia. The volunteer accommodation is a short stroll away from the nearest beach and the heart of town. Volunteer placements span various nearby locations, ensuring easy access with travel times ranging from 5 to 45 minutes. This allows volunteers to immerse themselves in their projects while savoring Bali’s beauty. Lovina offers a serene escape from the bustling crowds of southern Bali, showcasing black sand beaches, serene waters, and breathtaking sunsets. Lovina is famous for dolphin watching, where visitors can witness playful dolphins frolicking in the early morning hours. With its relaxed vibe and natural beauty, Lovina is the perfect destination for travelers seeking tranquility and exploration in Bali.

Arrival and orientation

The program orientation will begin on the Monday of your start date and volunteers need to arrive in Bali on the Sunday before orientation.

After you have registered for the program, please book your flights to arrive at the Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport (DPS). Your airport pick-up is included in your Program Fee should you arrive between 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Saturday or Sunday, before your start date. We recommend that volunteers under the age of 18 travel internationally with a notarized letter from their parents to support their documentation.

When you arrive, you will be greeted at the airport by a member of the local team and transported to the volunteer accommodation in Lovina. Your accommodation is covered by your Program Fee and includes the Sunday night. If you are traveling in Bali prior to your volunteer program, we can arrange for you to be picked up in Denpasar on Sunday.

It is important to note that due to high capacity during the period from May 27th to September 7th, 2024, the local team requests that volunteers only arrive on Sundays to receive an airport pick-up. As the volunteer house cannot accommodate additional nights for early arrivals before Sunday. If you happen to arrive earlier, you are welcome to arrange your own accommodation until Sunday when you can meet the local team at alternative pick-up locations. This also applies after the program, as check-out is scheduled for Saturday.

There are two options for orientation on the Bali - Lovina program.

1-day Orientation:

This begins on your selected start date and covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program. You will have an introduction to the IVHQ Bali - Lovina Program and the local staff, Indonesian customs, rules, expectations, and safety. This will be followed by a project-specific meeting with the project preparation you’ll need to complete for the following day.

5-day Introduction Week:

The Introduction Week begins on the morning of your chosen start date and runs for the first five days of your stay. It is an awesome way to kickstart your volunteer abroad experience and it covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program in Bali, plus you’ll learn more about the culture and get to tick off a must-do Bali experiences! The Introduction Week will also give you a chance to meet other volunteers and swap contact details for weekend travel and socializing.

You will be able to book extra nights via your profile after you register.

Kindly be advised that there is a 10:30 pm curfew at the volunteer accommodation. We please request all volunteers to be considerate and minimize noise during this time.

Meals are served within the volunteer house three times a day during the week. However, on weekends, only breakfast and dinner will be available. Should volunteers desire to dine out in Lovina, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance catering to various tastes and budgets.
