What recent volunteers said about their IVHQ experience
Traveling solo as a female can sometimes be challenging, but from the moment I started talking to my Program Manager, I knew I was in good hands. Everything was clear and well structured. Also, the local team were there all the time, looking out for you and helping you the best they could. The food was amazing! Three meals a day, prepared by the local team. Diversity, taste, quantity and quality.
Definitely I got there as one person and left as a different one. I am happy I helped the sanctuary and the animals, but the thing I am most proud of is the interaction with the people and the children. We made each other's life a bit better.
Just do it. It might feel out of your comfort zone and that is not your place there, but very fast you will become part of the team and really appreciate the things that matter. When I left, I was thinking about the location and the project, but I realized that what matters the most is people.
I adored my time spent volunteering in Namibia and it taught me so much about not just the world around me but a lot about myself too. I've made some lifelong friends and will definitely be volunteering again in the future!
This experience changed my life. Not only did I learn a lot, laughed a lot and experienced great adventures. It also made me fall in love with the country Namibia, a place where I'm definitely coming back to. For someone who is not sure joining this program, I would advise to be open to be a lil hesitant, of course you are jumping in the deep. That can be scary, but that should not be the reason not doing it.
