I adored my time spent volunteering in Namibia and it taught me so much about not just the world around me but a lot about myself too. I've made some lifelong friends and will definitely be volunteering again in the future!
This experience changed my life. Not only did I learn a lot, laughed a lot and experienced great adventures. It also made me fall in love with the country Namibia, a place where I'm definitely coming back to. For someone who is not sure joining this program, I would advise to be open to be a lil hesitant, of course you are jumping in the deep. That can be scary, but that should not be the reason not doing it.
It was great to have a guideline from IVHQ of what to do and what to prepare. Also to have someone I could write to when I had questions. That made everything a lot easier.
All the staff members at the sanctuary were amazingly helpful and super nice. Everybody tried to help in case of questions. The accommodation had electricity plugs, which was a pleasant surprise and they were nice and cozy.
You ALWAYS find new amazing friends and meet people that have an amazing impact of your life, even bad experiences let you grow and in the best case (mine) you find a second home and family. The experiences in general make you grow so much and are things you‘ll never get to experience at home
It was such an easy transition into Namibia, and we gained so many friends along the way. Truly an experience of a lifetime!
I have gained so much from my time volunteering in Africa and I cannot emphasize enough what an incredible experience it was. There were challenging times and a lot of hard work but the feeling of achievement and the amazing opportunities and experiences I had while there made it all worth it.
The traveling and volunteering have had such a positive impact on my confidence as well, showing that I can do it and it feels amazing looking back over everything I have achieved and experienced over the 6 weeks. I have made friends for life, had a positive impact on the amazing African wildlife and environment and gained incredible memories that will stay with me forever. I have always wanted to work with and help endangered species so to actually be out having first hand experience doing just that felt incredible especially as the tasks we were doing actually contributed to the conservation efforts so it felt like I was having a direct, positive impact.
I really enjoyed the experience of staying in the semi permanent tents and the more basic style of accommodation made it more authentic and like we were fully immersed! The food was delicious and I always enjoyed what was prepared. I also appreciated that there was always a vegetarian option.
To anyone who is hesitant I would say that this has honestly been one of the best experiences of my life and the confidence, skills and memories I have gained have made me so grateful I decided to sign up for the program. No matter what your interests or current skills there is a volunteering opportunity for everyone and the sense of achievement and pride after completing it and knowing you have had a positive impact on the world is one of the best feelings you can have.
Excellent guidance and preparation check list. My programs manager was always very helpful. Go with an open mind and just immerse yourself in the local culture experience. It’s helped my self confidence a lot as I stepped well out of my comfort zone.
As a second time volunteer with IVHQ I found everything was well supported prior to the trip. It was very supportive, but also relaxed, not burdening with my abundance of emails. The specific experiences were all incredible, I feel I learned a lot about the animals in general, and the efforts needed to ensure their survival and what we, as humans, can and should be doing to help out. I appreciate that this is the type of volunteer work that is never finished, and you can just go in every day and do the best that you can to help out where you can.
We had an amazing experience and truly enjoyed our time volunteering. The meals were always good and plentiful. It reminded me there are awesome people in this world and gave me a feeling of self worth. It also allowed me to spend some quality time with my daughter.
I gained a lifetime of valuable experience learning how the foundation is working hard for the benefit of animals and to improve human health in the rural areas.
my advise would be to just do it! When they are packing they will need to take flexibility, a desire to help, to learn and a big smile. Then they will have the time of their life!
I have gained so much knowledge about different cultures and animals on my volunteering experience. I also feel as though it has made me more confident as a human being and made me feel more empowered.
