Being alone more than 30 hours from home was an amazing experience. Being a 18 year old, volunteering changed me in a good way, I was expecting a normal trip during my gap year but Vietnam was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I met lovely people from every single part of the world and the best part was that we share the same purpose of volunteering.

I’m more certain about a career in medicine and felt that I grew so much as a person! I learnt a lot from the healthcare professionals, had the chance to explore three cities in Vietnam on days I was not volunteering, and made the most of my 3.5 weeks in Vietnam! I took the leap of faith to volunteer alone in a foreign land in a program I have limited experience in but have gained so much! To all that are contemplating about joining IVHQ’s volunteer program, I’ve been on two in 1.5 months and I have zero regrets! Go for it, you have nothing to lose, and so so much to gain!

I have gained so much joy in helping others through the programs I have volunteered with. I would recommend anyone of any age to sign up and volunteer. I have completed my programs solo each time and have met so many friends along the way. My first time volunteering was in Guatemala in an after-school program; I was 38 years old and loved it so much that I went to China and volunteered with Special needs there the same year. Since then, I have been to Ecuador to work with street kids, and my last one was in Vietnam, working with special needs children. I have loved every minute of each. I am 48 years old now, but there is no age limit for volunteering and helping others. You are never too old to lend a helping hand when needed. I will continue to volunteer worldwide and try to make a difference where I can.

Being immersed in Vietnamese culture, doing meaningful work and being surrounded by a team of people who make you smile everyday. I was initially nervous about joining the programme but it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life so I would suggest to anyone considering it to step out of their comfort zone and go right ahead!

My IVHQ Program Manager was prompt in replying to all my emails & was very thorough in providing all information pertaining to my enquires.

The local team went over & above in every aspect with every volunteer member. They were extremely professional & encouraged a family environment. They communicated with everyone via a WhatsApp group and were very informative in keeping everyone up to day. Monday night family dinner night was a fabulous way to meet the new recruits. They surpassed every expectation. I can’t praise them highly enough.

I went into the program hoping to make a positive impact on the participants however it was them that left a lasting impression & impact on me. The onsite staff at the daycare program do a wonderful job & appreciated the job all the volunteers did.

The cleanliness of the accommodation surpassed my expectations and the meals catered for all dietary requirements.

As a mature aged woman on her first solo volunteer program, I couldn’t rate IVHQ & the local team highly enough. They were professional in every aspect, Catered to all needs & nothing was ever a problem. My purpose was to make a difference to those less fortunate however they gave me more than I could have ever imagined. I’ll certainly be an advocate for more mature aged volunteers. Age has no boundaries with like minded people. I can’t wait to sign up for my next program.
