Introduction Week is a great way to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and local life, and have extra time to bond with your fellow volunteers. You’ll also get to see some of Ho Chi Minh’s notable landmarks, visit markets and take a Vietnamese cooking class. Plus, it’s a great way to help ease any culture shock you might feel when arriving in Vietnam.
Introduction Schedule
DAY 1 - Commence the program with an orientation to the Vietnam initiative, acquainting participants with the local team, guidelines, and a guided exploration of the vicinity on foot. The afternoon will be dedicated to familiarizing oneself with local projects, an educational session on the culture and language of the region.
DAY 2 - Begin the day by touring renowned landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City, including the Reunification Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, and Jade Emperor Pagoda. Following this, the afternoon agenda encompasses a visit to the Opera House, Walking street, and culminating at the esteemed Ben Thanh Market, an emblem of the city.
DAY 3 - Engage in a morning excursion to nearby markets adjacent to the volunteer lodgings, followed by an instructive session on Vietnamese culinary arts at a cooking workshop. The afternoon will feature a bracelet-making activity.
DAY 4 - Immerse in a full-day exploration of the city's most prominent historical site - the Cu Chi Tunnels, an essential visit in Ho Chi Minh City. Gain insights into the lives of North Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War.
DAY 5 - Embark on a visit to the renowned "War Remnant Museum," one of Vietnam's most popular museums, followed by a visit to the Vietnamese National Pagoda. Proceed to the vibrant Flower Market and conclude the day with a visit to a local and street food market, where you can savour authentic local delights.
Important note:
The Introduction Week is offered as an extension to your program duration and runs as a comprehensive orientation for the first 5 days of your stay. Once you complete the Introduction Week, you’ll be ready to start volunteering on the following Monday. This means that if you want to volunteer for 2 weeks and you add the Introduction Week to your itinerary, you’ll be hosted by the local team for a total of 3 weeks.
