This program is ideal for:

Active volunteers who don’t mind getting stuck in and are willing to help with whatever task is a priority. No previous experience is needed because you’ll be teamed up with local staff.

Project details

Keen to volunteer on a Construction & Renovation project in Bali - Lovina? International Volunteer HQ’s renovation project enables volunteers to gain experience in building and renovation at schools and community spaces in the beachside area of Lovina. These local projects need practical help with the maintenance and improvement of their buildings so they can keep up their important work supporting local communities.

What to expect and how you'll make an impact

Schools and community initiatives in Lovina frequently lack the financial resources to cover necessary repairs or enhancements that would enhance the safety, functionality, and appeal of their structures. With your practical help as a volunteer builder, these organizations will be better able to support their local communities and make a bigger impact.

As a Construction & Renovation volunteer, you’ll assist local teams with the maintenance and renovation of schools and community spaces and be able to see the visible difference you make.

Renovation volunteer work varies, but tasks may include:

  • Painting
  • Repairs and renovation
  • Gardening and landscaping
  • Maintenance and cleaning
  • Making signs

Volunteer requirements

  • All volunteers joining the program must obtain the C6B Social Cultural Visa. This type of visa is required to join the program, no matter your nationality or duration in Indonesia. The visa has additional costs and can typically take up to 15 working days to process and once registered you will be provided with instructions on how to apply for this visa.
  • An exception to the above applies if a volunteer will be in Indonesia for less than 30 days and opts to participate in the Introduction Week or the Yoga and Meditation Week along with one or two weeks of volunteering. In this scenario, the volunteer can join with a tourist visa, which can be obtained upon arrival, for most nationalities.
  • To respect the local culture and customs in Bali, volunteers should be aware that they’re unable to have anything obstructing their face while at their volunteer placement.
  • Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate in this program
  • Volunteers aged 16 or 17 on their program start date are required to provide IVHQ with parental consent in order to participate on the program, and may be asked to provide additional documents to the local team.
  • All volunteers aged 13+ are required to provide a criminal background check to IVHQ prior to departure. Those aged 13-17, if unable to obtain a criminal background check, can provide two character reference letters instead
  • All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance
  • All volunteers must speak fluent English.

I had a wonderful experience working with the IVHQ team while planning my trip to Bali. When I arrived I was welcomed by a great group of local coordinators. The trip was amazing and I would recommend to any one that it is totally worth it!

Me and my friends have lived the best 3 months of our life here, everything was amazing : the team, the volunteers, the culture, everything.

It has been such a pleasure to do the construction program, we got to learn so many things with the different projects. We are so proud of what we achieved. Our coordinator always helped us, trusted us and made us work in the best conditions. The local team in Lovina has been our home for the past months, and it was such a joy to be here everyday. I left with so many good memories with the volunteers and the team. If you have the opportunity to do a trip like this just do it, you will not regret it. And if you are looking for a family trip, go to Lovina, they are the best.

I'm in a gap year and I wanted to do something abroad that helped me meet people around the world, a new country, culture and lifestyle and something that would impact me and others. And volunteering with IVHQ was the best decision ever! Specially in Lovina, the local team will always help you, make you smile and feel like home. I had the best time of my life.

My best moments from the volunteer experience was the special dinners with everyone on Thursday nights. The biggest impact my volunteering trip had on me was learning about a different culture; its values, etc. My advice is just do it; you won’t regret it!

Volunteer Abroad in Bali, Lovina with IVHQ

Lovina is a charming coastal town located on the northern coast of Bali, Indonesia. The volunteer accommodation is a short stroll away from the nearest beach and the heart of town. Volunteer placements span various nearby locations, ensuring easy access with travel times ranging from 5 to 45 minutes. This allows volunteers to immerse themselves in their projects while savoring Bali’s beauty. Lovina offers a serene escape from the bustling crowds of southern Bali, showcasing black sand beaches, serene waters, and breathtaking sunsets. Lovina is famous for dolphin watching, where visitors can witness playful dolphins frolicking in the early morning hours. With its relaxed vibe and natural beauty, Lovina is the perfect destination for travelers seeking tranquility and exploration in Bali.

Arrival and orientation

The program orientation will begin on the Monday of your start date and volunteers need to arrive in Bali on the Sunday before orientation.

After you have registered for the program, please book your flights to arrive at the Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport (DPS). Your airport pick-up is included in your Program Fee should you arrive between 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Saturday or Sunday, before your start date. We recommend that volunteers under the age of 18 travel internationally with a notarized letter from their parents to support their documentation.

When you arrive, you will be greeted at the airport by a member of the local team and transported to the volunteer accommodation in Lovina. Your accommodation is covered by your Program Fee and includes the Sunday night. If you are traveling in Bali prior to your volunteer program, we can arrange for you to be picked up in Denpasar on Sunday.

It is important to note that due to high capacity during the period from May 27th to September 7th, 2024, the local team requests that volunteers only arrive on Sundays to receive an airport pick-up. As the volunteer house cannot accommodate additional nights for early arrivals before Sunday. If you happen to arrive earlier, you are welcome to arrange your own accommodation until Sunday when you can meet the local team at alternative pick-up locations. This also applies after the program, as check-out is scheduled for Saturday.

There are two options for orientation on the Bali - Lovina program.

1-day Orientation:

This begins on your selected start date and covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program. You will have an introduction to the IVHQ Bali - Lovina Program and the local staff, Indonesian customs, rules, expectations, and safety. This will be followed by a project-specific meeting with the project preparation you’ll need to complete for the following day.

5-day Introduction Week:

The Introduction Week begins on the morning of your chosen start date and runs for the first five days of your stay. It is an awesome way to kickstart your volunteer abroad experience and it covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program in Bali, plus you’ll learn more about the culture and get to tick off a must-do Bali experiences! The Introduction Week will also give you a chance to meet other volunteers and swap contact details for weekend travel and socializing.

Additionally, Western-style meals will be served twice a week. For breakfast, volunteers can expect pancakes, fresh fruit, toast, and eggs. Throughout the day, tea, coffee, and toast are readily available. Purified drinking water is provided in the volunteer house, as tap water is not recommended for consumption.

Meals are served within the volunteer house three times a day during the week. However, on weekends, only breakfast and dinner will be available. Should volunteers desire to dine out in Lovina, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance catering to various tastes and budgets.

Should you have special dietary requirements, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make appropriate arrangements for you. However, it’s essential to remain flexible as your meals may not be your typical eating habits at home.
