I’ve managed to get out of my comfort zone. I was worried about traveling alone but I never once felt alone. I’ve made lifelong friendships, learnt a lot about different cultures. If you are hesitant please don’t. It’s very well organized, safe and the local team are like a family. Amazing human beings.

As a Lao American, I knew I wanted to not only serve but connect to my roots. This trip did that and so much more for me. The service opportunities enabled me to make an immediate impact on students, teachers, locals and new found friends. While them also having a profound impact on myself. My perspective on gratitude, resources, education and my own culture has expanded. I know and believe that this opportunity will be the catalyst to my next servant leadership venture! Only thing I regret is not taking this volunteer trip sooner!!!

This program in Laos was enjoyable in a number of aspects not limited to the support from the team, but also the support from other volunteers and the experience of which this project provided with me. Being able to immerse myself in the local culture whilst also meeting others from an international scale allowed me to not only learn about local traditions but also the experiences of others. Additionally, at no point did I feel uncomfortable by any means, I always felt safe and the local team was always willing to provide me with any help or information. If you are hesitating as to what project or destination, I guarantee that Laos, any of the projects, will be a safe bet.

This was a very humbling experience; the IVHQ support staff, local team, and school staff were welcoming and helpful.
The students were a joy to be around! It was such an amazing experience all around. Our fellow volunteers came from all around the world, from Spain, France, Australia, China—their openness and embrace of the Laos culture was really touching. So proud to be part of such an amazing crew of volunteers.

I gained a fresh new perspective on the world and the needs it requires. A greater love for people, new experiences and open eyes. I'd say anyone hesitant to join the program, if you have a heart for doing more, don't mind getting your hands dirty and open to new experiences outside your comfort zone I say go for it! you have nothing to lose but limitless opportunities to gain.

I’ve gained so much knowledge about myself, other people, the lao culture and the world. The advice I’d give someone who’s hesitant is to try to not think too much about it. To just do it. I was quite hesitant at first to go on this trip but when I got there my nerves were eased. The local team is so accommodating and I felt they and all the other volunteers accept you right away.
