It is near to the guesthouse (200m) so you will be able to walk there each day to meet up with the other volunteers. You will walk to the guesthouse each day to have breakfast with the other volunteers.

Reminder: Only one person needs to purchase this private room in a hotel upgrade and please note who the other volunteer is that you will be booking the private room in the hotel with.

If you are a group or family that wants to stay together you'll just need to add two private rooms in a hotel to your itinerary.

Culture Week
The Culture Week in Seoul offers an ideal way to deeply engage with South Korean culture and comfortably transition into your volunteer project. This week goes beyond the surface of K-pop and K-movies, providing you with a true taste of Korea’s rich traditions and vibrant lifestyle. You'll savor authentic Korean cuisine, explore historic royal palaces, learn the intricate art of Korean handicrafts, pick up essential language skills,  hike through Seoul's breathtaking mountain landscapes and more!

By the end of the week, you'll feel at home in this dynamic city, confident in navigating its streets, and fully prepared to embark on your volunteer journey.

What Awaits You During Culture Week

Each day of Culture Week includes around 3-5 hours of curated activities, from exploring cultural landmarks to engaging in hands-on experiences like calligraphy or Korean cooking classes. The remaining hours of the day, as well as weekends, are yours to explore as you wish. Whether you’re up for a day trip, a scenic hike, or simply relaxing at the guesthouse, the local team is on hand to help plan your adventures and make reservations.

Monday:

Dress Code

Seoul Buddhism Experience: Meditation, Culture & Tradition
Join the Seoul Buddhism Program to experience Korea's rich Buddhist traditions through meditation, yoga, and cultural activities. 

Open to all levels, you'll start your day with guided meditation and engage in communal tasks, language lessons, and cultural orientations. With afternoons free for exploring Seoul, optional activities like tea ceremonies are also available. This program offers a unique chance to connect with monastics and immerse yourself in the spiritual and cultural essence of Korea.

The Korean Buddhism program allows for cultural immersion while simultaneously allowing you to engage in a wide variety of activities that showcase the rich history of Korea and the religious practices of Buddhism. You will have the opportunity to participate in daily chores and cleaning and be a part of many different types of meditation and yoga. This will give you an insight into the inner workings of Buddhism and therefore allow you to strengthen your spiritual journey. You will also have the opportunity to partake in Korean language lessons and an orientation that showcases Korean culture.

This program is available to both those who are beginners in Buddhism and those with more experience. The daily routine begins at 6 am with morning meditation, followed by a rest and then breakfast to begin your day.

You can then spend the rest of the schedule about meditation and yoga through guided practices where they will be taught about different meditation postures and breathing techniques. Following morning activities you will then spend some time doing some chores and cleaning. Lunchtime is from 1pm where you will have free time afterward for the remainder of the day allowing for exploration of Seoul, some afternoons there may be some activities held at Just-Be such as tea ceremonies, but these are optional to partake in.

Without knowing what the right price is to pay in South Korea for an airport transfer, you can easily get overcharged, or spend a long time trying to haggle a decent price. Enjoy a stress free ride back to the airport arranged by our local team. 

You’ll be picked up from your volunteer accommodation at your chosen time, and driven directly to Incheon International Airport with plenty of time for your flight. Transfers to other destinations can also be arranged if you are heading somewhere else.

Culture Week
The Culture Week in Seoul offers an ideal way to deeply engage with South Korean culture and comfortably transition into your volunteer project. This week goes beyond the surface of K-pop and K-movies, providing you with a true taste of Korea’s rich traditions and vibrant lifestyle. You'll savor authentic Korean cuisine, explore historic royal palaces, learn the intricate art of Korean handicrafts, pick up essential language skills,  hike through Seoul's breathtaking mountain landscapes and more!

By the end of the week, you'll feel at home in this dynamic city, confident in navigating its streets, and fully prepared to embark on your volunteer journey.

What Awaits You During Culture Week

Each day of Culture Week includes around 3-5 hours of curated activities, from exploring cultural landmarks to engaging in hands-on experiences like calligraphy or Korean cooking classes. The remaining hours of the day, as well as weekends, are yours to explore as you wish. Whether you’re up for a day trip, a scenic hike, or simply relaxing at the guesthouse, the local team is on hand to help plan your adventures and make reservations.

Culture Week Highlights

Monday:

  • Breakfast at your accommodation
  • Program Orientation: Get an overview of your upcoming experiences to ensure a smooth start.
  • Neighborhood Tour: Familiarize yourself with the area around your accommodation.
  • Lunch: Share a meal with fellow participants, fostering a sense of community.
  • Visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace: Explore Seoul’s most significant heritage site.
  • Myeongdong Market: Indulge in street food and shop in one of Seoul’s liveliest areas.
  • Welcome Party/Tea Ceremony: Enjoy a warm welcome with traditional Korean tea.

Tuesday:

  • Breakfast at your accommodation
  • Korean Language Lesson: Dive into the local language, equipping you with basic communication skills.
  • Visit HIKR Ground (showcasing K-Pop and K-Drama experiences)
  • Museum Tour: Discover the story of King Sejong and the invention of Hangul; practice writing your name in calligraphy.
  • Lunch
  • Insadong Tour: Wander through Seoul’s most famous street for traditional Korean items.
  • Traditional Stamp Making: Create your own engraved stamp in Insadong.

Wednesday:

  • Seongsu-dong Street Tour - often called the "Brooklyn of Seoul," is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city. 
  • Walk at the Seoul Forest - Seoul’s largest urban parks, offering a mix of green spaces, cultural spots, and wildlife encounters.

  • Free time at Lotte Tower - The Tallest Skyscraper in Korea
  • Visit to the traditional market 'Mangwon Market' - a beloved traditional market in Seoul, South Korea, known for its vibrant atmosphere, affordable street food, and fresh produce. 

Friday:

  • Korean Cooking Class: Engage in a hands-on cooking experience and learn to make delicious Korean dishes.
  • Lunch: Enjoy the meal you’ve prepared.
  • War Memorial of Korea: Gain insights into the Korean War and its impact.

Important Information

  • Flexible Itinerary: The schedule may be adjusted based on weather, project needs, or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Extended Program: The Culture Week adds an extra week to your volunteer program, allowing for a smooth transition and comprehensive orientation.
  • Fitness Requirements: Given the active nature of this week and the outdoor activities involved, a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable Shoes: Essential for the numerous walking activities.
  • Sun Protection: Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself during outdoor activities.
  • Technology: A functioning smartphone, tablet, or laptop for language lessons and personal use.
  • Hydration Gear: Refillable water bottles and hydration packs to stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Insect Protection: Mosquito repellents and other preventive measures for outdoor activities.

Dress Code

  • Respectful Attire: Dress modestly to align with local cultural norms, especially when visiting temples and palaces.
  • Appropriate Clothing: Avoid wearing anything too short, tight, or revealing. Ensure your shoulders and legs are covered.
  • Western Clothes: These are fine as long as they meet local standards and are respectful in terms of graphics, symbols, or text.

Seoul Buddhism Experience: Meditation, Culture & Tradition
Join the Seoul Buddhism Program to experience Korea's rich Buddhist traditions through meditation, yoga, and cultural activities. 

Open to all levels, you'll start your day with guided meditation and engage in communal tasks, language lessons, and cultural orientations. With afternoons free for exploring Seoul, optional activities like tea ceremonies are also available. This program offers a unique chance to connect with monastics and immerse yourself in the spiritual and cultural essence of Korea.

The Korean Buddhism program allows for cultural immersion while simultaneously allowing you to engage in a wide variety of activities that showcase the rich history of Korea and the religious practices of Buddhism. You will have the opportunity to participate in daily chores and cleaning and be a part of many different types of meditation and yoga. This will give you an insight into the inner workings of Buddhism and therefore allow you to strengthen your spiritual journey. You will also have the opportunity to partake in Korean language lessons and an orientation that showcases Korean culture.

This program is available to both those who are beginners in Buddhism and those with more experience. The daily routine begins at 6 am with morning meditation, followed by a rest and then breakfast to begin your day.

You can then spend the rest of the schedule about meditation and yoga through guided practices where they will be taught about different meditation postures and breathing techniques. Following morning activities you will then spend some time doing some chores and cleaning. Lunchtime is from 1pm where you will have free time afterward for the remainder of the day allowing for exploration of Seoul, some afternoons there may be some activities held at Just-Be such as tea ceremonies, but these are optional to partake in.

Clothing
  • Bring comfortable, modest clothing suitable for activities like yoga, tai chi, and meditation (longer than half-sleeves and below the knee preferred). Ensure attire is appropriate for temple visits, avoiding inappropriate graphics or styles. Western clothing is fine if it meets local standards.

Want your airport drop off organized for you for the end of your IVHQ South Korea trip? We can book an airport transfer for you from your volunteer accommodation back to Incheon International Airport at an affordable price. 

Without knowing what the right price is to pay in South Korea for an airport transfer, you can easily get overcharged, or spend a long time trying to haggle a decent price. Enjoy a stress free ride back to the airport arranged by our local team. 

You’ll be picked up from your volunteer accommodation at your chosen time, and driven directly to Incheon International Airport with plenty of time for your flight. Transfers to other destinations can also be arranged if you are heading somewhere else. 

If booking with another person, only one person needs to buy this upgrade and please contact your Program Manager to inform who the other volunteer is that will be using this upgrade.
