I gained more than I could ever put into words. I learned about the culture, was included by and formed friendships with locals, and got to see so much of the country. My advice would be to push down the doubts and take the leap. As scary as it may seem, you’ll dread coming back home at the end.

The preparation resources for the trip were excellent. The guide for travel was robust and laid out my expectations of me for traveling to Fiji. I felt well prepared with all information to travel confidently to Fiji and having all of the resources made me more excited.
The local team was outstanding. They made us feel incredibly welcomed and well-supported throughout the entire trip and were available to ask any questions to at all times. They helped immerse us in the local culture, villages, and ways of living exceptionally well. The trip would not have been the same without them!
I felt that while brief, there was a positive impact from our volunteering as we were able to contribute to educating the children and providing them with a fun and safe environment for exercise in the afternoons (through the sports program)
I feel like I gained a lot from not only the volunteering program itself, but everything that ran alongside this. Joined the sports program in the afternoons; travelling into town to watch a 7s rugby tournament; doing all of the outdoor activities possible in our free time; and meeting some friends for life who were volunteering alongside us!
If you are anxious, consider all of the opportunities for adventure you will have outside of the program and the impact that you will have, no matter how short your project.
