Want to improve your Arabic language skills while volunteering in Jordan? There’s no better time or more affordable way to gain confidence speaking, reading and writing in Arabic! 

These lessons are highly recommended to help settle any language barriers or culture shock you could face in Jordan. The lesson content is created and delivered by professional Arabic teachers, who have extensive experience teaching in the classroom. The lessons provide you with valuable vocabulary and tools needed to help you prepare for your volunteer project.

Past volunteers have relayed that taking these lessons help immensely with day-to-day volunteer work and communicating with local people. The lesson times will be arranged outside of your volunteer hours and we recommend volunteers take advantage of the very affordable Arabic lessons offered exclusively to IVHQ volunteers by our ​local team ​in Jordan.

Please note for each week will consist of 10 hours of lessons. 

You will start your day by visiting Al-Maghtas, the traditional baptism site of Jesus Christ. This location holds immense religious and historical significance. You can spend the morning exploring the baptism site and the nearby archaeological remains that provide insights into the past.
 
You will then head to The Ma'in Hot Springs, also known as Hammamat Ma'in, which are a series of hot mineral springs and waterfalls in the desert where you can choose to go in for a dip or just watch the waterfalls.

As the day starts to wind down, you will head back to your starting point.

Start your day early to make the most of this amazing experience. Upon arrival, you will visit the historic site of Mount Nebo. This is where Moses is believed to have seen the Promised Land for the first time. Explore the ancient church and enjoy the panoramic views from the summit. Take your time to soak in the spirituality and natural beauty of the area.

Mount Nebo has a small museum that houses artifacts and mosaics from the area. Spend some time learning about the history and significance of the place.

After your visit to Mount Nebo you will head towards the Dead Sea, which is not far away for a leisurely lunch. 

Spend your afternoon floating in the Dead Sea, famous for its high salt content, making it one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth. The mud in the area is also known for its therapeutic properties, so don't miss out on a mud bath. It's not only a fun experience but also great for your skin.

After a day filled with history, natural beauty, and relaxation, you will head back to your accommodation.

You will begin your exploration by visiting the geological Golan Heights. You can take in the natural beauty of the basaltic plateau and the surrounding landscapes, including the Sea of Galilee and the Yarmouk River.

When you leave the Golan Heights, you will make your way to Umm Qais, which is known for its proximity to the ancient ruins of Gadara. Spend time exploring the ruins of Gadara and visit archaeological sites, walk among the ancient remnants, and take in the historical and cultural significance of this place.

After your visit to Umm Qais, you will head to Ajloun Castle, a 12th-century Muslim castle situated atop a hill in the Jabal Ajloun district. You will have time to explore Ajloun Castle, learn about its history, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This castle played a strategic role in the region's history.

Spend the late afternoon exploring the ancient city of Jerash. Visit Hadrian's Arch, the Temple of Artemis, and the Forum's colonnade. The Jerash Archaeological Museum is also worth a visit.

This itinerary provides a balance between geological beauty, ancient history, and cultural exploration, taking you through significant sites in the Golan Heights, Umm Qais, Ajloun Castle, and Jerash. It's a journey through time and landscapes.

You will start your day by enjoying the scenic drive through the desert landscape of Jordan from Amman to Petra. Once you arrive in Petra, one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world. You will begin your exploration of Petra, starting with the famous Siq, a narrow gorge that leads to the Treasury (Al-Khazneh). You will also have chance to explore the various attractions within Petra, don't miss the Royal Tombs, the Street of Facades, and the Monastery (Ad-Deir).

You will spend your evening at Wadi Rum camp which is based in a protected desert in southern Jordan. It features dramatic sandstone mountains and natural arches. Many prehistoric inscriptions and carvings line rocky caverns and steep chasms.

Start your second day with breakfast at the camp and enjoy local dishes to fuel you for the day's adventure. If you opt for the Jeep tour, you can embark on a thrilling ride through the desert with experienced local guides. Explore Wadi Rum's Martian-like landscapes, towering sandstone mountains, and ancient petroglyphs. The Jeep tour typically costs 30 JODs per ride.

You will then head to Aqaba Hotel for check in and can visit the Aqaba Fort, also known as Mamluk Castle, which offers historical insights. Alternatively, you can choose to spend more time at the beach, engage in water sports, or explore local markets.

Start your third day with breakfast at your accommodation before you head back in Amman.
