IVHQ's support was timely, regular and extremely comprehensive . The local team were always present and extremely helpful. The placement exceeded my expectations and, as a (much) older volunteer, it was easier to participate than expected. The accommodation was well kept and the food was always sufficient and available. And the bonus of cheerful kitchen staff!

I gained the satisfaction of a meaningful contribution, and the cultural immersion through the opportunity of a very wide range of extra curricular activities.

I feel like I didn’t really know what to expect before I came but it was so amazing. My hesitations were around the support I’d get whilst being there and making friends with people. I got a lot of support and a lot of flexibility especially in terms of the excursions. I’ve made friends with everyone at the volunteer houses and and everyone was amazing.

I have definitely made an impact during my programme but I could have made more of an impact if I’d stayed longer. As I was working with women, it takes time to build relationships with them so I felt like I had to leave as soon as we became closer which was a shame as they were all absolutely incredible and I would have loved to hear more about their stories.

All the staff in the house were incredible! The mamas, coordinators, cleaners, security guards etc made me feel so welcome! Of course with the windows being open to keep the house cool but the mud and dust could get a little dirty, however the cleaners were very on top of it. I felt completely safe in the house and appreciated the 24/7 security.

The food was incredible! There was a lot of food, a lot of flavour, it was kept warm and the fruit was covered. The cinnamon rolls were amazing!

It was so great to speak to people from all over the world and learn about different countries and cultures on top of learning about Tanzania and Africa. I am in touch with a volunteer who is soon coming to the program helping her with recommendations, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else that was looking for an experience like this.

The local team in Tanzania was the most amazing local team I could ever imagine! I have been with many volunteer abroad organisations and nothing comes close to the support we got from them. I definitely want to come back!

IVHQ was amazing to deal with, everything being online in a checklist made it so easy to follow and I felt prepared and understood what I was getting myself into before coming! I would definitely book through them again.

The local team was beyond amazing, could not recommend them more. They were just a message away and made us feel safe at all times.

At my school, it felt like we made a difference in the kids' lives. Simply donating items and money to contribute to them was amazing and turning up everyday to hundreds of smiling kids was heart warming.

The accommodation was great. The team always fixed any problems that happened or had the generator going for us if the power was out. Our accommodation was way better than I thought. The meals were amazing, there were so many options and I was never left hungry. The mamas fed us so much and always cooked anything extra or helped out with dietary requirements and went above and beyond.

I feel like I gained a sense of gratitude and to appreciate everything I have at home. I was able to be put out of my comfort zone in many areas and I am so forever grateful as I feel like I’m returning home a better person. Experiencing a new culture that is so different was completely new to me but I loved every second of it. After this experience I’m so excited to look into where I can go next - this program brought me to Africa when I don’t think I ever would’ve come otherwise. I will forever be grateful and wish I could stay longer.

I feel like I definitely went out of my comfort zone, gained more independence, and made a strong impact in the daycare I was placed at. I would tell someone who is hesitant about joining the Tanzania program to sign up for a 2-3 week trip and I would bet by the end they will want to stay longer. The first week is the scariest but once you are accustomed to the culture and new people it feels like home.

I would 100% recommend volunteering in Tanzania with IVHQ. The experience was genuinely life changing and has completely changed me as a person. The country and the culture is so welcoming to everyone, and so easily becomes like a second home to you. I can’t wait to come back one day, and do it all again! Found a new kind of happiness in Tanzania.
