Cole Brian
Occupation: Office Manager for Video Production Company
Age: 21
Home Country: United States

Having already registered to volunteer with IVHQ in Kenya this summer, Cole was motivated to apply for this scholarship to expand his international volunteering efforts and satisfy his desire “to help, to learn, to explore, and to use my life in a way that can positively benefit and inspire other people.” Our future IVHQers are always seeking insightful accounts of volunteer experiences, and Cole’s keen interest in video production and travel blogging will ensure his journey in teaching English will be well documented to support those considering the opportunity too.

Why are you passionate about teaching English abroad?

I cannot think of a better way to get to know a new culture and to see new things across the world in such a unique way as teaching English. This opportunity to help teach others from around the world in a positive way which supports a greater connection through speech is a huge motivator for me.

What experience/skills can you apply to teaching English abroad?

I want to bring positive and encouraging support and influence to those I would be able to teach English. I consider myself highly proactive and efficient in what I do and feel it would be essential to teaching English abroad. I love to travel solo which tends to come with a free and independent spirit. I like to think independence combined with being proactive is necessary to be successful in teaching abroad.

Why do you believe you will be effective in teaching English abroad?

A feeling of self accomplishment. I don’t want to grow old and feel I wasted my youth for selfish reasons. I want to get out there and experience this beautiful world in a way that positively influences others. I want to use my life as a force for good. What better way to help accomplish that than volunteering your efforts.

What are you looking to gain from the experience?

A feeling of self accomplishment. I don’t want to grow old and feel I wasted my youth for selfish reasons. I want to get out there and experience this beautiful world in a way that positively influences others. I want to use my life as a force for good.
