Our Supervised Youth Adventure Packages are designed to give teens aged 15 -17 years old an independent but safe volunteer abroad experience, provided through a supervised in-country experience and customized itinerary made just for teen explorers.

Every aspect of the itinerary has been designed and vetted by IVHQ to deliver appropriate volunteering, accommodation, meals, transport, cultural activities and full-time coordinator supervision and support, for parents’ peace of mind.

In order to take part in the Youth Adventure Package, you must provide written consent from your parent(s) or guardian(s) to volunteer abroad on your own.

India - Kerala: Youth Adventure Package

Take part in an unforgettable youth volunteer trip in India. You’ll make an impact, explore striking landscapes and connect with like-minded international teens from around the world. It’s trip that’ll change everything for you!

Your fees for the 10-day India Youth Adventure Package totals $1899 (US$299 Registration Fee + US$1600 Program Fee), which includes the following:

IVHQ is dedicated to bringing you the most cost effective fees, while maintaining the safest programs and added travel benefits. We understand there are additional costs associated with traveling abroad such as visas, flights, vaccinations and mandatory travel insurance.

IVHQ will provide comprehensive pre-departure support in order to better prepare you for your trip and can also provide you with access to flight deals and travel insurance once you’re registered for your program. For personal expenses while on the program, we recommend bringing around US$100 in spending money.

Teenagers travel independently to the program, growing their confidence and self-sufficiency, until they are picked up at the airport by our local team in Kerala. We can also work with our flights partner to connect you with other teens traveling to the program, giving younger travelers the opportunity to travel together or connect in transit. On the program, teenagers experience a set volunteer abroad itinerary with a group of other teens from around the globe.

The India - Kerala Youth Adventure Package is located in the city of Kochi (or Cochin), in the state of Kerala on the southwest coast of India. You will live and work in the Fort Kochi area, a popular tourist spot that is famous for small boutiques, colonial buildings, excellent regional cuisine and its unique Chinese fishing nets. Kochi is a safe and welcoming city with an abundance of activities to enjoy in the surrounding areas.

The IVHQ India - Kerala Youth Adventure Program is a 10-day program that begins on Saturday 11th of April 2020.

You will be provided with three meals per day during your 9-day stay. Meals will be traditional Indian and Keralan cuisine provided to you at your accommodation.

If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know well in advance of your program so our local team can make arrangements for you. We will do our best to see that your dietary requirements are catered for. If you prefer western style meals, you can easily get this at the local cafes and restaurants in the area.

Volunteers will be accommodated in a local homestay or volunteer house in the Fort Kochi area. Living is basic but comfortable and you will have access to electricity, WiFi and western-style toilets.

There are fans provided, however, it is important to be aware that there is no air-conditioning. Your showers may be cold but being a warm climate almost all year, it’s never a problem.

All bedding is provided and you can expect to be sharing a room with two to three other Youth Adventure volunteers of the same gender. You will be required to bring your own toiletries and towels.

During your 9-day program, the local team will provide 24/7 supervision, with at least one staff member for every eight volunteers. In your free time, you will be supported by the local staff and have the ability to socialize with other teen/high school volunteers.

Below is an example itinerary for the 9-day teen program. A more detailed, confirmed itinerary will be provided after you register for the program.

Saturday, 11th April:

Volunteers should arrive in to Cochin International Airport on Saturday the 11th of April. You will be provided with an airport pick-up and your orientation and welcome presentation will be held in the evening.

Sunday: Experience Culture!

You will join a tour and lunch through the backwaters of Kerala. The backwaters are a picturesque network of waterways that connect integral parts of everyday village life and the ecosystem of local wildlife. That evening, you will be given training and time to plan for your upcoming days of volunteering.

Monday- Wednesday: Volunteering Time!

Volunteers will split into two groups and work with our local team on one of two exciting projects. You will have the opportunity to work on a school holiday program for local underprivileged children, or work on school renovation projects in the local area.

In the evenings, there will be different activities throughout the week. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a yoga class, view a local Kathakali dance show, join a cooking class and visit the local market on Palace Road where you can try some local snacks and famous masala chai.

Thursday - Friday: Adventure Time!

Participants will head off on a two day trekking adventure through Munnar. The Munnar trekking adventure involves a trek to Meesapulimala, followed by an exciting lakeside trek around Anaerangal Lake, surrounded by tea estates and spice gardens. You will trek through the Western Ghats, to one of the highest peaks in the area, ending at Anaerangal Lake.

This trek lets you challenge yourself to the peak. You also get to visit a local tribal village while walking through farmers at on various tea and spice plantations that are the backbone of the economy here. On Sunday, you will return late at night from the trek where your dinner will be provided.

Saturday: Explore!

You will have time to explore Fort Kochi and Jew Town, giving you the opportunity to buy souvenirs pack before your departure. In the evening, our local team will host a goodbye dinner for your group.

Sunday: Departure day!

We ask you to arrange their departure from the program on Sunday, the 19th of April. Your return transport to Cochin Airport is provided.

Teen volunteers take part in a unique orientation specific to their group which provides insight into southern Indian culture, safety and the details and rules of the volunteer program.

Volunteers participate in supervised, age-suitable projects or range of projects as a group throughout the week.

Supervised tourism/cultural activities are included in the itinerary and all entrances and fees are included in the price.

Romania: Youth Adventure Package

Say hello to a meaningful adventure in Europe. Our Romania teen package allows you to explore and contribute as a volunteer in Romania. You’ll connect with local people, initiatives and a network of epic teens!

The 10-day Romania Youth Adventure Package is available from $1,499 (Registration Fee from US$299 with the option to upgrade for added flexibility + US$1200 Program Fee).

Volunteers can choose from three possible Registration Fee options, ranging from US$299-$399. Different Registration Fees include different degrees of refundability and flexibility. Your Program Manager is able to discuss these options in greater detail so that you can find the one that best suits your travel plans.

For personal spending money while on the program, we recommend bringing around US$200.

The Romania Youth Adventure Package is located in the city of Miercurea Ciuc (or Csíkszereda) in central Romania. You will live and work in the heart of Harghita Country, an area with great cuisine, historic buildings and stunning landscapes. Miercurea Ciuc is a safe and welcoming city with an abundance of activities to enjoy in the surrounding areas.

The IVHQ Romania Youth Adventure Program is a 10-day program that begins on January 5th, 2020.

You will be provided with three meals per day during your 10-day stay. Meals will be traditional Romanian style and are served at your accommodation, except for a few meals which will be provided while you’re out and about adventuring.

If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know well in advance of your program so our local team can make arrangements for you. We will do our best to ensure your dietary requirements are catered for. Western-style meals are also available from nearby cafes and restaurants for those who prefer them.

Volunteers are accommodated in a volunteer apartment in central Miercurea Ciuc. Living is simple but comfortable, with access to WiFi and western-style bathrooms.

All bedding is provided. You can expect to be sharing a room with up to six other youth adventure volunteers of the same gender. You will need to bring your own toiletries.

During your 10-day program, the local team will provide support 24/7 support on demand, with at least one staff member for every eight volunteers. If staff are not directly supervising volunteers, they will be close by and available on call. Volunteers will have free time to socialize with other teen/high school volunteers.

Sunday 5th January: Arrival

Volunteers should arrive at Bucharest International Airport no later than 3pm on Sunday, January 5th. You will be picked up from the airport and transported to Miercurea Ciuc, where you can settle in and get to know the other Youth Adventurers before you share a meal at a local restaurant.

Monday: Orientation

This is a day of preparation where you will be given the ultimate orientation to the Romanian way of life and your volunteering project. You’ll get an introduction to the culture with a Hungarian language lesson, which is a commonly spoken language in Romania, and a detailed orientation of what to expect while volunteering in the days ahead. This is also when the planning and preparation for the holiday camps you will be assisting on takes place.

Tuesday - Friday: Volunteering Time!

Volunteers work in holiday camps for local children who have limited opportunities. These camps run from 10am - 2pm, and volunteers also assist with preparation before they begin each day as well as a local adventure during the afternoon. These adventures include visiting local castles and ancient buildings, learning folk dances and experiencing the local way of life in a nearby village.

Saturday - Monday: Adventure Time!

While on the program, volunteers are given the opportunity to really discover Romanian culture. A visit to the nearby town of Korond, which is famous for its pottery and ceramics, offers plenty of time to explore the authentic cultural commune and enjoy a pottery making class. You’ll then travel to Red Lake, which is a picturesque natural waterway surrounded by stunning natural forests and mountains. Volunteers spend Saturday night in a local guesthouse, where the rooms are also separated by gender.

The following day you will start with a hike to the top of Cohard Mountain where you can challenge yourself in the climb and enjoy the incredible view at the peak. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the Bicaz Gorge, which is a spectacular stretch of road through narrow rock cliffs and home to a wide range of souvenir stalls, before traveling back to Miercurea Ciuc.

Your final day of adventuring will be spent at Saint Ana Lake, where you can relax and enjoy the natural scenery and views, spending time with your new friends and enjoying a unique tour of the peat bog. In the evening, our local team will host a special goodbye dinner for your group.

Tuesday: Departure day

We ask you to arrange your departure from the program on January 14 after breakfast. Your return transport to Bucharest is provided by the local team. You’re able to be dropped off at the airport, or, if you’re continuing your travels in Romania, at other main points in Bucharest. Please communicate your drop-off point with the local team in advance.
