Keep reading to discover if volunteering in the Pacific is for you…

Volunteer in Hawaii

As a volunteer in Hawaii with IVHQ, you will have the unique opportunity to work on a range of different initiatives focused on conservation and environmental restoration. You will be led by a team of local environmental advocates in activities throughout the two weeks. The main focus of the project is addressing the issue of plastic pollution through beach clean ups and debris response calls, then gathering and analyzing the collected debris. Ocean pollution is a worldwide problem that is particularly evident in Hawaii, as major ocean currents carry large amounts of plastic waste from around the world onto Hawaii’s northern and eastern shores. You will also work alongside local aquaculture and agriculture projects - an ancient native Hawaiian fishpond, called a loko i’a, and a farm that utilizes native agricultural practices and community engagement programs. You will be based in Ohau, and the volunteer house is about 20 minutes from downtown Honolulu. In your weekends you’ll be able to explore the beaches and natural beauty that Hawaii is famous for! If you are chasing a lifestyle change, want to be closer to nature, meet like-minded people and have a positive impact on the natural environment then Hawaii is the volunteer program for you!

Volunteer in Fiji

As an IVHQer in Fiji, you will instantly feel at home as you are immersed in the local community and welcomed by the world-famous Fijian hospitality. Alongside other international volunteers, you’ll have the opportunity to participate on one of four community projects, choose from Teaching and Sports Education, Kindergarten or Construction and Renovation. In and around Suva, you can treat yourself with the freshest fruit from the markets and pick up souvenirs for you family. Explore the lush rain forest of Colo-I-Suva, an oasis full to the brim with tropical plant life and featuring many walking trails to traverse. Made up of 333 beautiful islands, Fiji has endless opportunities for exploring on your weekends - snorkel at one of the many crystal blue beaches, like Beqa, just an hour away from Suva, or just relax on the white sand beaches, such as Mamanucas. If you don’t mind “island time”, can take initiative and love to be around other like-minded travelers, then we’re sure that you will love your experience in Fiji.

I had an incredible experience in Fiji. The Fiji staff were always very helpful and I regret only going for four weeks! There were several moments throughout the trip that I loved. The villagers giving us fresh coconuts while we were working in their village. Island hopping with the other volunteers and going to the waterfall with the other volunteers the first week we got there. Thank you for making my trip to Fiji to unforgettable! DARCIE WONACOTT

Volunteer in New Zealand

New Zealand’s stunning landscapes, friendly locals and comfortable climate will keep you coming back for more! As an IVHQer in New Zealand, you’ll be based in Auckland, working alongside an award-winning conservation charity to support Coastline Conservation and Waterway Restoration or NGO Support projects. On the weekends, you will never be bored, Auckland is the perfect home-base to explore the rest of what New Zealand has to offer. Being the largest city in the country, it is a hub of transportation options and tour opportunities. Grab the ferry over to Waiheke Island to enjoy a bike ride or walk around the island, finished off with a great meal at a winery.
