Zoe Silverberg
Zoe Silverberg is a 19 year old student from Toronto, Canada who volunteered on the IVHQ teaching English and orphanage program for two weeks in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon). On her program Zoe worked with 3-5 year olds at her school and orphanage. Some of the tasks she has been assigned had been to teach the kids to count to 20 in English and singing songs with actions. A great hit amongst this age group! Another popular activity had been to name body parts in English by drawing stick figures with the kids. There are 40 children in total, half of which live in the orphanage and half get dropped off daily by their HIV positive mothers, who go to work in the local sewing factory. Zoe helped feed the younger ones lunch then headed back to the volunteer house for her own lunch. Zoe says she initially struggled to adapt to the Vietnamese culture which is so different from what she is used too but would recommend volunteering for the eye opening experience and satisfying experience!
