I actually helped with the construction of a kitchen (cement work, and some destruction of existing walls). I was satisfied to see the progress we made while I was here and felt like we really made a difference in the community.

I'm just freshly home from a month's stay in Ghana at the Blue program in Kasawa. Not only was this an extremely rewarding experience, but also the friends and connections with the children were an honor to gain. While there, with the help of donations made from home, several other volunteers and I were able to have a veranda built for the orphanage and also a water pipe put in place. Future projects that would be helpful would be helping to organize and fund a poultry farm for a more nutritious diet and also more school supplies.

The trip is going wonderfully. I have been diving in head first to both the volunteer program at El hospital de hermano Pedro working with toddlers with cerbral palsy and to the guatemalan culture in general. The staff are extremely helpful and understanding and the volunteer house is a great place to stay. Thank you for your email and i look forward to keeping in touch!

I truely had an amazing time in Ghana! It was an impressive experience to work there and be around the kids all the time and yet it was challenging and rewarding all in one. The school system was so frustrating at times but it's great seeing how happy the kids are although they barely have anything. Being back now I miss the children at the orphanage and I get sad thinking that I probably won't see them again.
The local team did a fantastic job and always went the extra mile for us and also their weekly visits at the orphanage made us feel they were always there for us. Beforehand I felt a bit nervous about signing up for the teaching programme as I thought this would be the only thing I would be doing at the programme but it turned out to be more varied than I had thought - which was pretty much what I had wished for. So I only taught a few hours per day and I found that if you had your eyes open there were plenty of other things to be done around the orphanage. As such I ended up putting up some new moskito netting at the children's dormitries, sorting out the library, went to the nursary, did a bit of painting on a house etc. The project ended up being the way I had wished it to be. I definitely think the experience was worthwhile and I will recommend it to my friends and family.

My project was absolutely perfect for what I wanted to do. As a nursing student maternity was my area of interest so I was excited from the moment I found out until the moment I left. I was placed at Ngarenaro Health Centre and with all the different areas to help out with I got a lot of hands on experience and learned a lot about what they do. On my last day I was able to watch a tubal ligation surgery and help with minimal tasks. It was an amazing experience. My experience was absolutely worthwhile.bI would go back in a heartbeat.
I know the nurses enjoyed having me around, this was shown when I received a gift of appreciation when I left. The volunteer house manager was fun, great, and pretty organized. The 3 house girls were amazing, funny, and did a good job. I would absolutely recommend IVHQ to new volunteers. Overall I want to thank you for your hospitality and I had an absolutely amazing experience. Thanks again.

I cannot thank you enough for organising such a fabuolous experience. Although I left my placement less than a week ago, I already miss the children, the staff and my host family desperately. They all made such a huge impact on my life in such a short space of time, and I feel so honoured to have had the opportunity to meet them all and learn from them. I would never have felt comfortable travelling over to Cambodia by myself and trying to find such an experience by myself, so I am incredibly grateful to IVHQ for ensuring the host organisation I worked for was legitimate and supportive.

Thanks for your email. I'm having a great time. Everything has been very smooth. Andy and Minh have been extremely helpful and friendly. I had my first day teaching English today which I really enjoyed. I feel very settled already. Thanks for asking.

The information booklet was very helpful and was clearly well researched. Particularily for Cuzco, if going in the winter, perhaps recommend a few really warm sweaters as the temperature changes are extreme and it is very cold at night and in the early morning. Information on suggested donations to bring to your placement (ie. soccer balls, bubble solution and wands, skipping ropes for schools and orphanages; gloves, swabs, scrubs, etc. would be really appreciated at medical clinics)

As I mentioned above, the IVHQ staff was very responsive to my numerous emails. Any question or concern was responded to within 24-48 hours, which was greatly appreciated. During my time in Cusco, staff continued to be more than helpful with any need I had. I have recommended IVHQ to friends, and will continue to do so!
