Volunteer Experiences and Testimonials
My project was absolutely perfect for what I wanted to do. As a nursing student maternity was my area of interest so I was excited from the moment I found out until the moment I left. I was placed at Ngarenaro Health Centre and with all the different areas to help out with I got a lot of hands on experience and learned a lot about what they do. On my last day I was able to watch a tubal ligation surgery and help with minimal tasks. It was an amazing experience. My experience was absolutely worthwhile.bI would go back in a heartbeat.
I know the nurses enjoyed having me around, this was shown when I received a gift of appreciation when I left. The volunteer house manager was fun, great, and pretty organized. The 3 house girls were amazing, funny, and did a good job. I would absolutely recommend IVHQ to new volunteers. Overall I want to thank you for your hospitality and I had an absolutely amazing experience. Thanks again.
I felt like I was valued and needed which is exactly what I wanted from my volunteering experience.
I had the most amazing experience with IVHQ, so much so I am looking into going with IVHQ again to Peru!
Thank you for a wonderful experience. We were so happy with the consideration and careful planning of our placement and the suitability of our school and nearby accommodation. The Director of St Andrews School was an experienced and professional Headmaster and the school was organised and a happy environment in which to work. The teachers we worked alongside were helpful and considerate. The hardest part of the whole experience was the day we said goodbye to the beautiful children. I must admit we had tears in our eyes the day we said goodbye as the whole school payed tribute to us and thanked us for our time and work. Of course they also danced for us which was beautiful.
Thank you for helping me and my team make our volunteering dream come true. Nepal was amazing! I loved it so much I even extended my placement for 2 more months!
I spent three weeks in the jungle and one week in construction and I appreciated and enjoyed every moment, especially my time in the jungle. Best experience ever! Thank you so much for your support.
i wanted to tell you that you've got a most wonderful program in lima. lidias organisation and home is the most wonderful and warm homestay ever and the work you can do there is so fullfiling and my best experience ever! i'm telling everyone to do it! you will not regret in for sure and its soo lifechanging!!! wonderful
The program coordinator, Zineb, and her assistant, Efsy, put together a terrific set of programs for us. She was flexible, patient and understanding of our concerns and made some last minute modifications to create the perfect experience for us. The result was an interesting placement in the right preschool with encouraging staff, and welcoming children where we think we could actually contribute something even though we were there for too short a time. We also had a lovely host family in a very safe, convenient and historic area of the city. And finally our Arabic tutor was fantastic. A great teacher and a lovely person. Zineb gave us her own tutorials on transportation, food and customs that were very helpful. All in all I would recommend Morocco to anyone and can't wait for the opportunity to return myself.
I would just note that a volunteer's proficiency in either Arabic or French will make the experience easier and more contributory. There is very little exposure to/use of English outside the University setting. Also - it really is cold in December and most buildings (homes and schools) are not heated. Packing accordingly makes the stay more pleasant.
I really appreciated how promptly my emails and concerns were answered by IVHQ. That really helped lower any anxieties that accompanied planning my trips.
I had so much fun teaching english with Tarpuy Sonqo! The students were all eager to learn and welcomed me into their classrooms with open arms. Even though getting up at 6 am was rough at times, the students made everything so worth it!
I lived at Mama Sara's house and absolutely loved it. I liked that the house could only house up to 8 volunteers because we all became the best of friends.
The custom of kissing each other on the cheek when meeting and saying goodbye - that tradition was so amazing because I felt like family to my counterpart. It was so fulfilling to be tackled with kisses as I left the school after a long day of teaching. I've never felt more appreciated and loved by complete strangers.
I loved volunteering with IVHQ, and I look forward to volunteering with them again. I was worried at first because IVHQ is stationed in New Zealand and I'm from the USA, but my coordinator was very helpful and quick at responding to my emails.
My favorite moments were playing with the kids at the orphanage and seeing their faces light up. I also enjoyed making new friendships that will last me lifetime.
The local staff were more than accommodating. My project was great teaching sports and I also had my own building projects going on too at the school. The people were most grateful!
Accommodation was perfect in every manner as you need to understand that you are living in a village in Uganda.
The local stafff are wonderful at what they do over there, welcome you and more than look after you!
