Pacific Coast Turtle Conservation Project
Turtle projects have different locations in Costa Rica, depending on the season but one of our main centres is on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Most projects located about 6 hours away by bus from San Jose. These projects were established by conservation organizations and NGOs to conserve the area where sea turtles predominantly hatch their young. These turtles and their young are in danger of being injured or killed by animals living on the beach as well as human interference. Volunteers work on nightly patrols of the beach, led by a resident volunteer coordinator. Volunteers stay in co-ed dorms and they have to take part in the daily chores at the house. Volunteers need to follow the rules of the camp and the daily activities that are programmed. NOTE: Some of the locations of the sea turtle project have no electricity and the facilities are very rustic. 1-20 volunteers generally work at this project. NB This is only an example placement which is one of many offered by IVHQ in Costa Rica and not necessarily the one you will be working at.
