The New Franeli School is located in the Riruta community on the outskirts of the capital city Nairobi, 8km from the city centre. It was started six years ago and has over 180 children aged between 3 years (baby classes) to 15 years (upper classes). The school has a team of local teachers who have to take care of these children by teaching and counseling them. Many of these children have very needy cases and need someone to guide and support them. IVHQ volunteers working at this school have been teaching them English, mathematics and arts. In addition to this some of the volunteers have come up with projects like setting up classes and buying writing boards and stationary for the children. NB This is only an example placement which is one of many offered by IVHQ in Kenya and not necessarily the one you will be working at.
