IVHQ Insurance

Although it is not mandatory to purchase travel insurance when participating on one of our volunteer trips abroad, International Volunteer HQ highly recommends it.

From a survey of IVHQ volunteers in 2009, over 98% had purchased travel insurance. It is inevitable that things will not go to plan when you are travelling and while IVHQ does everything it can to ensure your trip abroad goes smoothly and is a fantastic, memorable experience, it is very wise to ensure you have adequate travel insurance should you fall sick, bags go missing or something is stolen.

International Volunteer HQ has therefore partnered with World Nomads travel insurance to ensure volunteers have access to the best insurance deals designed specifically with volunteer travellers in mind. The insurance premiums are VERY low, yet cover everything you require for a volunteer trip abroad. Best of all the insurance can be used for travel outside of your volunteer trip as well if you are travelling before or after your volunteer placement. World Nomads are recommended by highly regarded travel experts Lonely Planet and are underwritten by insurance giants Allianz, IHI, BCS Insurance Group, BUPA, Mondial Assistance and Millstream. This insurance covers medical emergencies, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, personal belongings and personal liability. To see exactly what is covered and how much it will cost (this varies slightly from country to country), please click on the link below.

The importance of good insurance is highlighted through the feedback received below regarding World Nomads insurance from a past volunteer. You may find slightly cheaper insurance elsewhere but it is important the company has a good reputation for quick and effective cover. World Nomads is recommended by IVHQ for not only its' low cost but also it's outstanding service to our volunteers.

"The insurance with World Nomads saved us.  Seriously.  Jen had to have her appendix taken out and we had no money and she doesn't have health insurance in the USA.  Not only did we not have the $9000 for the surgery, we didn't have money to cover it until we were reimbursed and no one in Jen's family was in a position to just wire $9000. First of all, the hospital was immaculate and the people working there were extremely accommodating.  I spent a good amount of time working with someone at the hospital about Jen's insurance and I don't know if he pulled some strings or the insurance company pulled some strings but somehow they covered the whole thing and we walked out of the hospital without paying a dime.  The deposits that Jen had put on her credit card were reimbursed in cash.  I will use World Nomad insurance from now on when I travel...every time I travel."
