Cusco Orphanage Placements
These are two separate orphanages managed by the same director – one for girls and one for boys. The girls’ orphanage accommodates 45 girls and is run by a team of local staff. The boys’ orphanage accommodates 45 boys, and several support staff such as caretakers and cooks. The objective of these orphanages is primarily to protect the children. The support includes providing food, education, housing, health, recreation and consistent psychological support. Volunteers are involved in encouraging the children to participate in sports, arts and music, English and homework tutoring. Volunteers should also expect to be involved in daily chores such as meal preparation and gardening. Construction projects include building a bakery for the girls’ orphanage as a way to provide them with sustainable income. 1-4 volunteers generally work at each orphanage. NB This is only an example placement which is one of many offered by IVHQ in Peru-Cusco and not necessarily the one you will be working at.
