Cusco Medical Clinic
This clinic is located in Cusco and receives 150-200 patients a day. The majority of the patients are children from low-income backgrounds. This clinic is run by a combination of local doctors and nurses. The objective of this clinic is to provide low-income families with quality service for basic healthcare and specifically for child healthcare. Volunteers are encouraged to be actively involved in assisting the local staff. However, medical students should understand that independence in healthcare placements will always be determined by: medical experience, medical education, demonstrated expertise, Spanish level, personality, ability to take initiative and duration of program. 1-4 volunteers generally work at this project. NB This is only an example placement which is one of many offered by IVHQ in Peru-Cusco and not necessarily the one you will be working at.
