This project is a boarding school located in suburban San Jose, 25 minutes away from the city centre. This boarding school houses 40 boys between the ages of 12 – 18 years old. This project was established to provide teenage boys with an opportunity to study at a secondary level of education. The boys that attend this school are from low-income families. Volunteers primarily teach English at the school as part of the school’s curriculum. Volunteers work alongside local teachers and tutors at the school. Volunteers are encouraged to create fun lesson plans and bring something new to the classrooms. 1-3 volunteers generally work at this project. NB This is only an example placement which is one of many offered by IVHQ in Costa Rica and not necessarily the one you will be working at.
