Spectaculu is an organization that offers children and youth from low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro the chance to complement regular scholastic education with artistic, cultural, and professional development during their formative years. The objective of the institution is to provide children and youth with tangible skill sets and self-esteem for their future growth. The institution is sponsored by such organizations as UNESCO and The Ayrton Senna Foundation. Two specific programs offered for youth at Spectaculu are “Escola Fábrica de Espetáculos” (where students are provided training in theatre, acting, costume design, illumination, and carpentry) and “Escola de Arte e Tecnologia” (where students are provided training in video, editing, photography, graphic design, animation, and computer). In addition, students in both programs are provided training in management skills, English language, and communication skills.
